Respect to Sony
My PS3 stopped working last week, it was the Blu-Ray drive that had developed a fault. I phoned a number and gave them the serial and they arranged a time for a replacement to be sent to me. Today I got a brand new 60gb PS3. Makes me wonder though, why do they have a supply of 60gb consoles if they arent making them anymore? Were they aware that certain models of 60gb PS3's were susceptible to breakdown?

Not for me. Every time I'd call they would try to convince me that my problem was a heating issue or some other BS. Yeah, a Blu-Raty drive malfunctioning is a heat issue.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Yes, I agree. I love Sony, they are genearally prepared to do alot for their customers.Ack wrote:It's certainly possible that they are keeping some solely for that purpose, as part of a maintenance division, or for spare parts.
To the OP: I have a 60GB PS3 as well and I was expecting to get an 80GB PS3 since the 60GB ones were discontinued.

Overheating could very easily be the cause. The original Playstation overheated which caused the lens track to warp. Many people would turn their consoles upside-down to help alleviate this. I wouldn't rule this out for the PS3 either, but the PS3 seems to be the best engineered Sony console to date.GSZX1337 wrote:Not for me. Agreed. My PS3 has never overheated but from what several big name tests have shown, it can get into the upper 100's w/o showing immediate effects.ZenLogikos wrote:Overheating could very easily be the cause. Older. Not wiser.
My PS3 just wouldn't let me eject my discs. I'm not really sure how that's a heat issue.ZenLogikos wrote:Overheating could very easily be the cause. Even if it is a heat issue, having my PS3 in the middle of a well cooled living room wouldn't be the culprit.
