Insomniac done with Resistance
It's that time again. With the next generation of PS systems on the way, it's time for Insomniac to start a new IP. I just wonder what it'll be...

Good idea to start something new, Naughty Dog got the idea with The Last of Us

Except for there is no way they're dropping Uncharted.Bradtemple87 wrote:Good idea to start something new, Naughty Dog got the idea with The Last of Us

Why not? They dropped Crash Bandicoot and Jak.Stark wrote:Except for there is no way they're dropping Uncharted.Bradtemple87 wrote:Good idea to start something new, Naughty Dog got the idea with The Last of Us

Re: Insomniac done with Resistance
Several reasons, although one could argue that reason number 1 could be applied to Resistance as well, but I'd argue right back it's not on the same level.
1.) Uncharted is a flagship title for the PS3, which is consistently championed by Sony. It is a launch title for PS3 and the PS Vita, Sony won't let them drop it and not make Uncharted 4 for the PS4. Several titles are like this, but I think Uncharted is the top.
2.) I don't think any one of the Jak or Crash games made money like Uncharted does. Uncharted 3 sold 3.8 million units on day 1. Source: http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/10157.html

For a time, Crash was considered the unofficial mascot of the PS1, but that didn't stop Naughty Dog from moving on. Also, Uncharted was not a PS3 launch title.Stark wrote:Several reasons, although one could argue that reason number 1 could be applied to Resistance as well, but I'd argue right back it's not on the same level.

I don't see any reason Naughty Dog couldn't create a new series that also makes tons of money. Jak II was quite successful, if you remember. People play Naughty Dog games because of the consistently great gameplay from title to title, not because they just happened to make something good by chance (which they couldn't replicate with another series.)Stark wrote:2.) Re: Insomniac done with Resistance
You got me there, oops. It seemed like one at the time, probably because I waited about a year to get a PS3. Crash may have been the unofficial mascot, but he never felt as solidly the mascot as Drake does to me.BoringSupreez wrote: For a time, Crash was considered the unofficial mascot of the PS1, but that didn't stop Naughty Dog from moving on. Again, it might be successful, but it is not 8 million units sold successful. And that was just for the link I posted, it is likely more than that now. By Jak III I'm sure the numbers just weren't there and they were looking at market that wasn't really interested in platformers any more. It doesn't feel like 3rd-person shooters are going away any time soon and Naughty Dog won't say no to buckets of cash.BoringSupreez wrote: I don't see any reason Naughty Dog couldn't create a new series that also makes tons of money. Another gauge I am using (which is obviously subjective) is that the news that they aren't making any more Resistance is far less impactful to me then saying that ND isn't making any more Uncharted. And I love Resistance.

Re: Insomniac done with Resistance
Didn't ND hand off the Vita Uncharted title to another dev, much like Insomniac did with Retribution and the Vita Resistance game? I wouldn't be surprised if both Uncharted and Resistance continue without either of their original studios doing the work.
