the only PS2 game I'd want is Dark Cloud, but it's missing the manual.

Just to let you know, Wal-mart knows people abuse the system they even want people too. They can't openly say it but as long as they sell it you can get store credit. Its one of the business practices to steal the competition's customer base. They view it as they may be returning one item for an exchange, but they will probably pick-up other item while they are here. They can't lose. They only give you the value for what it's sold at at that current time so no money loss.Hobie-wan wrote:Right, abuse the system and screw it up for honest people.Zing wrote:One solution is to return it to Walmart without a receipt and get store credit.

LOL, what about the part where you said "no breaking up lots?"Stark wrote:http://www.ebay.com/itm/DARK-CLOUD-DARK ... 2a181110d0noiseredux wrote:the only PS2 game I'd want is Dark Cloud, but it's missing the manual.

Actually, they'll only give you the lowest price it has sold at (not necessarily the current price) for the last 30-90 days. Example, if you paid $30 for X and you go to return it w/o receipt - if it is currently selling for $35, but 2 weeks ago it was selling for $25 - you get $25 store credit. All major retailers due this as result of the post-Christmas dump-off scams of the 80's and 90's.
Stores traditionally did not require a return receipt, only that the item be new / sealed. Stores traditionally clearance a majority of toys in the days after Christmas to get them off the shelves. Then, soccer-mom-scammer goes and buys a toy for $50 at target on 12/27 that was selling for $100 before the holidays. Then come January the price goes back to normal on remaining stock, she takes it in and says I paid $100 for this on 12/24 and my kid doesn't want. $100 store credit.
Then major retailers began requiring receipts. So soccer-mom-scammer says, "ok". She buys the toy her kid wants for $100 and he opens it and loves. She sees it for $50 the day after Christmas and buys it. A few days later she returns w/the new item she just paid $50 for AND the receipt from the $100 item. She gets $100 back for the item she bought for $50. This one still happens and it is tough to combat as most UPC's are, wait for it, universal and it's tough to tell if it came from your store or not...if you in fact do sell it.
But, for these reasons, most stores have smartly made it more difficult to return items. Original receipt w/in 30 days and unopened is more than reasonable. If we all know the rules going in, it isn't complicated. It's people who've abused the rules that have made the rules "more strict" if you will.
Thus, you lose your receipt or wait too long - you will get store credit for the lowest price that item has sold at in store / online (for that store).

It's many years since they went by lowest price sold for in the last six months.mjmjr25 wrote:pepharytheworm wrote:

Wal-mart doesn't go by the lowest price it sold for, but current price now. When's that last time you returned an item to walmart without receipt? Neither does any other retail store I have managed, even during the after Christmas return policy period, which by the way is always more lenient. For the most part larger chains have started to go more lax on their return policy (even if the rules are stated more strictly) and smaller chains have gotten more strict. But if you're not getting your way all you ever have to do is ask for corporate's number, which for the most part they will bend over backwards to help you, but of course their is always a limit. Do you work retail?
[/quote]What's Walmart's No Receipt returns policy?
Walmart's No Receipt policy applies to items returned in a store only. You have the option of a cash refund (for purchases under $25), a Gift Card for the amount of the purchase (for purchases over $25) or an even exchange for the product. We also follow any manufacturer's warranties. You can make up to three No Receipt returns within a 45 day period.

Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
^I do not work retail, no. My mother-in-law sent my daughter a Harry Potter Lego set for Christmas. She had paid $119.99 for it (Harry Potter Diagon Alley) - we did not have a receipt as we did not ask for it (we also bought this for our daughter, so needed to return one. Ours was for 99.99 on amazon before it skyrocketed to the $140's - so we wanted to return the pricier one) For sake of not letting our mother-in-law know we were returning her gift, we attempted to return it w/o receipt. We knew she got it at Target or Wal-Mart. We tried target first.
Target Policy on returns w/o receipt: They will take return on items they have in current stock if the item is sealed / new. This is limited to $70 total per-year and an in-state ID is required. (Target, Duluth - MN. This is nationwide policy w/o returns, I just called.)
We then went to Wal-mart as the item was valued over $70 and Target would not allow the return. It was currently selling at $139.99 at Wal-Mart, however they offered us $99.99 in store-credit as that was the price it was listed for previously. Perhaps it is regional - but that is and for many years in my area, the practice. (Wal-Mart, Cloquet, MN).
Needless to say, we werent' going to throw $20+ away, so we did ask our mother-in-law for the receipt (which was Target afterall) and returned it.

Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Gamestop is converting all new PS2s into used systems now. Meaning, it's possible to get a new system at the used price.
