If it's cheap, like less than fifty or sixty bucks, I'd buy it.

If the price is higher I'd save my money for a Vita.

Yes there's other devices that are similar, but seriously, just the fact that it (looks like) it has the NG clicky stick makes it way better than anything similar. I've got a PSP Go right now, which acts as a (very!) portable emulation device, and it works ok, but it's certainly not ideal. This device, assuming it'll get hacked to shit to load emulators and whatnot, is my perfect portable emulator.

I suppose I'm a little addicted to the NG clicky stick, I still need to pick up an NGCD pad, and it's variants.

Neo Geo!

I think it is all down to the clicky stick and the price tag they put on this. The rest are details (although, it the main aim is to emulate Neo Geo stuff they should have made the screen 4:3).

But it also has to be a media player (hence all those play/ffwd buttons) because who buys a portable game system these days?

Really. Look at your PSP, your DS, your tablet. THOSE ARE NOT GAME(-only) MACHINES.

It is not trivial to make your DS be a media player - how is it not a game only machine? Sure, there is homebrew to change that but otherwise how do you get it to play music out of the box?

You have a point with the PSP, and presumably the 3DS as well, and going forward handhelds certainly do need to compare themselves to the iPhone and other smartphones.

In any case, it is not hard to incorporate that into this and keep the price low - it will necessarily have the hardware in order to play games, it is just a question of throwing a rudimentary player into the firmware or whatever. To be honest I think people already have an iPod or a smartphone to act as a media player and this would sell better if it was cheaper, lost the extra buttons and focused on being a dedicated, cheap game machine with a clicky stick.

For a media player that plays quality games you can get a PSP (Vita or not), or a Sony Experia Play, or one of the Nintendo machines, or an iPhone. But it won't have that clicky stick...

I don't see myself buying one of these. Unless this was something along the lines of a 2-D geared arcade console with modernized looking sprites, I don't see myself buying something that I can already emulate on several different things I already own.

Then again, if it were a 2-D based next-gen console, they'd have as many buyers as there are people on this forum.

Somebody should change the 3 unmerged topic titles related to this topic to include the word: ´hoax´. I love how these threads still live on long after it has been called hoax.
Hey, perhaps SNK playmore will wake up one day and see the enthusiasm and say: wait a ....minute! let´s do it! Yeah, probably not, but stranger things have happened.....right?

Link? Last I heard, that was just within the Japanese article with a question mark.
