Dreamcast Controller Port 1 not working , how to fix ?

Post by s8n »

hi team , i bought some stuff from a guy recently and he said there will be a delay " i will post something small as a bonus" , well i got it today amongst all the other gear it was right down the bottom of the box. When i saw it i was floored , he sent me a bonus untested Dreamcast.

I have done a little testing and found that Controller Port 1 is not working at all. Im still stoked with it but if i can fix it , it will be icing on the cake.

any info is sensational

it's something about a fuse on the resistor or something, this breaks when 3rd party pads want too much power, i think.

Vlame hit the nail on the head. Just google F1 resistor dreamcast. You sould find anything you need to fix the problem.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Sometimes the controller sub-board can go bad. I know some places on-line may still sell replacement controller boards (the board with the 4 controller ports on it). Also, some controllers can cause shorts. I have a controller which doesn't work with ports 1 or 3, but it does with 2 or 4. All my other controllers are fine. This one controller also can't have a memory card in it or it screws up lots of things.

more great info thanx marurun , i have a few backup Controller Ports and have installed 2 to no avail. Dismantling the DC before i found the Ribbon Cable is corroded i think the Ribbon Cable connector is corroded aswell hampering a proper connection to the Motherboard or done worse to the M/B possibly a short.. I even tried a new Controller Board Ribbon Cable and another Controller Port still same result.

im thinking my last option is a total M/B replacement

i have done some more investigating and found that the Controller Ribbon connector on the M/B is corroded , if i were to get it working from its current state it could corrode again and damage more parts. I think the best option is a Replacement M/B.

If you can clean up some of that corrosion you might be OK. It's worth a try. Take a pencil eraser to the board and see if clean-up returns it to functionality, and if it does, keep using it until it's toast :)

Fast forward to 2014 and I've got a similar problem. ports 1 & 2 don't work on my dc but 3 & 4 are fine...
