Ok, which one is better and why?
If you think Twin Snakes is better, why would somebody want to buy the original?
Metal Gear Solid vs Twin Snakes - FIGHT!
Ok well, copy/paste from what I said already
Twin Snakes takes entirely too much flak. People always bitch about the cutscenes, the acting, the music. None of which are valid arguments. Aside from the rocket jumping shit, the cutscenes weren't so over-the-top, and were actually quite an upgrade over the originals. People who whine about the scenes must not have played MGS2 or MGS3. Also, I guarantee you, I can take comparisons on the acting and sample them to people unfamiliar with the game, and they'd be split 50/50. It's a case of vocal delivery nostalgia and nothing more. Also Frank Jaeger wasn't black, so it's probably a good thing that he stopped sounding black. The score was changed from a very limited masterpiece, to a very broad masterpiece. They created as many amazing tracks as they omitted, and inserted a lot of less noticeable but highly appropriate BGM. Each boss theme was unique and amazing, (aside from the Solid vs Liquid fistfight, which might as well have been Yakety Sax).

Never played twin snake so I can't say much. I just prefer the original because that was how it was intended to be play. I mean I wouldn't mind the upgrade graphics, but to change the mechanics would be blasphemous.

@ Mozgus, do you really think that jumping on an incoming missle from a Hind D (gunship) and then somersaulting into the air (three or four times) is not a little over the top? I can't think of anything from the other games that were that ridiculous.
The voices are definetly a huge step above the over compressed original cuts. I disagree that the music is better in TTS though, I prefer the original much more. TTS sounds less dramatic and more synthed out, creating a blured out sound. Could just be me though.
My other opinions can be found here.

If you bothered to read my post, you'd know that I specifically said that it WAS over the top. Everyone loves to point at that scene for evidence, but they never have any others. One scene does NOT ruin a game.Daniel Primed wrote:@ Mozgus, do you really think that jumping on an incoming missle from a Hind D (gunship) and then somersaulting into the air (three or four times) is not a little over the top? You only listened to the generic BGM then. The generic BGM served a purpose. It added variety, while stealing LESS of your attention. Yes, the PS1 original had beautiful (but limited) scores to accompany all the sneaking, but it was so great that it actually brought you out of the element. They went with the MGS2 strategy on this one, and it worked.I disagree that the music is better in TTS though, I prefer the original much more. You clearly didn't listen to any of the boss themes or the new cutscene music. There are so many memorable, album worthy tracks they created for TTS. The boss music is certainly not "less dramatic or blured", whatever you were implying by that. So again, you must have only listened to the BGM. The cutscene music was actually much more cinematic in TTS.
And need I count the number of themes the great PS1 themes were reused in a single playthrough? They start to get a little stale.
Yes, I saw your blog post, and I already voiced disgust over it.My other opinions can be found here.
And for good measure, one of the most epic scenes, compared.
Note the theme in the PS1 version, while nice, gets used like, what, 5 times during the game? In TTS they created some beautiful original themes here.
The old 26 min "Trailer" still serves as a great medley of a lot of the original music.
Definitely.D.D.D. wrote:I like'm both. The original for nostalgia and TS for a really nice upgrade of the original. Both are great.
Sometimes I wish an FF7 remake would come to fruition, because the sheer epic amount of butthurt fanboys that would rise from their dwellings and cry foul would be a truly amazing sight to behold. It would make the Twin Snakes public tantrum look like nothing.
