Game series you feel started to lose their roots?

Any? One that I see, and that really irked me, is Harvest Moon. They had such a good series, and now its getting to be a bit crap. SNES, Gameboy (all kinds), N64, PS1,MM on Gamecube, and HM:DS seem to be the only ones worthwhile. I've heard good things about Tale of Two Towns being closer to the old fashioned style, but it has its own problems and glitches holding it back, from what I understand.

It bothers me because of how big a piece of my childhod that was. I only had Friends of Mineral Town growing up, but I played it around 400-600 hours alone, and I still play it. Growing up on a ranch has ingrained the lifestyle into me, and the games are just such fun... uggh. Why do they have to make these new ones so cutesy and focused on "social interaction"? Why the fuck would I want that?

Final Fantasy the series died for me after IX(9) IX was awesome, and FFXIII(13) was the nail in the coffin.

Even if you didn't like X, do you think it lost its roots? I personally think X was fantastic, and I consider that the end of the traditional, character-driven Final Fantasy games.

XII still had some elements that drew me in, mostly in the combat system, but it was the first Final Fantasy I had played where I found myself not caring about what happened to any of my characters, least of all my main character. The big bosses were fun though.

Just ignore the parallel timeline then. Battle Network and Star Force aren't on the main one that Classic/X/Zero/ZX/Legends are on. Only Legends is the odd one out, and you can't very well say a series has lost its roots because of a two game subseries that died nearly three gaming generations ago.

I feel the exact same way. I wouldn't call X a fantastic game, but I respect it for being the last true Final Fantasy we'll ever get. If the game didn't have such a dreadful story and cast, it would probably be in my top 5 favorite FFs for the gameplay and music alone.
