I've gone on and on about this game and it's versions too many times here so I don't want to weigh in too much, but yeah the PS1 version is one of the best ones. The various ports have their strengths and weaknesses. Basically, if you want to play the game closest to it's original form, in English, the PS1 version is the best way to go, and the SNES version is the worst way to go.

Also, "easytype" actually refers to a SFC version of the game. The SNES version is a dumbed down version of course, but the term easytype comes from this game:

I was under the impression that the US version came almost directly from the JP easytype.

I thought it was the other way around?

Final Fantasy V was planned for a USA release? I never knew that.
Indeed, it was to be called Final Fantasy USA and it was supposed to be dumbed down again for the American audience. In the end it was eventually scrapped and we got Mystic Quest instead. boo

The Japanese easytype is a modified USA version. The USA game was first.

I just found this on a French site. Its saying that a remake of VI on the 3DS could be in the near future! It shows some compelling evidence to boot. Not concrete evidence, but it will make you go hum. http://translate.google.fr/translate?sl ... ml&act=url

Fuck it, I'm gonna pop in FF4 for PS1 and see what happens. Maybe I can finish it this time. :D

I guess I should get through this game and move on to the next so I can play it along with you 3DS owners. ;)
