The most important Neo Geo question in the world

Post by retrosportsgamer »

Which of the following is the correct naming convention for this system?

Neo Geo
NeoGeo
Neo-Geo

I have seen all of these used across a number of legitimate sites. Any thoughts?

I assume you want to reference this for your blog? I actually have a PDF style guide that compiles all the official ways to write company names, console names, etc. I'll dig it up and let you know.

Having said that, the SNK Playmore site lists "NEOGEO Station" games, so most likely it's a single word officially. Either NEOGEO or NeoGeo.

That'd be cool - I'd like to take a look at that .pdf

Yes, SNK does use NEOGEO through PSN, but also capitalizes all the letters in their games (SUPER SIDEKICKS) too to throw you off a little.

I guess NeoGeo then?

All you have to do is look at one of their press releases -- “NEOGEO” is a registered trademark of SNK PLAYMORE CORPORATION.

exactly. That style guide I have is just culled from official press releases. The fact that I've read through it is why I get bugged when people don't realize "Game Boy" is two words, "GameCube" is one word, and "Xbox" is capital-X lowercase-b. :D

For what it's worth, I've always nailed the Game Boy and GameCube naming ;)

What is with all the shouting from SNK?

Thanks - I'll go with NEOGEO , although it's interesting as that is the least used out there.

You're all gonna go with that even though on the arcade cabinets, the game screens and the home console it clearly says NEO-GEO?

Unless the new post-folded SNK now calls it NeoGeo for historical archive purposes

Is it a dash though? It's a dot (imo) which can't be replicated on the keyboard unless i'm missing a shortcut key like ™

You can, by holding the Alt key and then type 0149.

So then we can say

Neo • Geo
