On Modern Gaming

Post by Radical Lanzar »

I'll break the ice by just saying, what the fuck is this bullshit? I've been behind the times a bit, by about 10 years. That can be a good or a bad thing, but it doesn't look like I'm missing out much. I'm just now beginning to enjoy modern 3D gaming, the likes of Metroid Prime and the Twin Snakes; all over again. However, this new watered down bullshit is unacceptable.

What gives?

We're going for an ultra realistic performance out of gaming. I don't understand the point of the modern 3D FPS. It's easier and more realistic to make a weekend of paintballing. I know Halo had it's merits and revolutionized co-op play the likes of Quake Arena. But there hasn't been much innovation since then, or so I gather. We're stuck in a dry spell of FPS all over the place. What gives? What happened to gaming that was meant to be innovative?

These days I can't even go to gaming sites that are proper. I only get to read up on dry walled news, press releases and garnered discussions and speculation.

What's the point of the leaderboard and scoring systems as of late? There's lots of faction based gameplay, drama recording and people harassing and taunting each other. At least the console wars and fanboys had a reason for pointing fingers - they loved what they did and they were passionate.

Tell me it's just in my head and I'm making a spectacle of myself; I'll go silently, honest.

They're trying to get the money of the dudebro/social media addict crowd, which happens to be a very large group. It's mainly Xbox that's guilty of this, so if you stay away from 360-oriented sites, it won't be so bad.

Do looking at Japanese developed games, I find them more fun. Ex. Nintendo, Sega, Platinum games, Grasshopper Manufacture, Atlus, Treasure, etc.

its a generation thing.

Kids now grow up on modern stuff. The only classic games they experience are on the virtual console.

They think that old consoles are PS1's and N64's.

And In a few years when PS4's and 720's come out, kids then are gonna think that PS2,GC, and XBOX are anicent systems.

They wont know any better.

We are a retrogaming community and some of us have yet to make the jump to 7th gen let alone the soon to be released nex gen.

So if we dont get it now then we probably wont then.

I can see us now in a few decades when we tell our grandkids:

We had to walk to a store uphill in the snow to get our games.

Head peeking out of the 6th gen (Dreamcast), rest of myself thoroughly entrenched in 2nd-4th gen.

Thank goodness for RACKETBOY!

I am 7th gen if arcades count -- always following and playing the latest there
