Did you ever wind up getting the Dash Boots? I love the dash mini-game (and the BGM). It's worth getting em just for that.

I really should start playing this game. It sucks that I start about once a year then stop and have no clue what to do when I start again so I just end up starting a new game. I don't know what it is about this game but I do it everytime.

Weird to see people are getting stuck in this game, I thought it was pretty straight forward. The Flame Wand is definitely a curveball but other than that everything can be found with patience and good old exploration. There's tons of hard to find secrets and such though.

I only felt stuck on the Flame Wand, but that's because I THOUGHT I was going to the next dungeon and needed it. Other than that, the game is MOSTLY straightforward, unless you want to do a lot of sidequests.

How do get the side quests? Do you just stumble into them or do you get them from npc's?

Both, mostly by NPCs though. Rule of thumb would be to talk to everyone all the time, and talk to everyone again every time a major event has occurred (such as advancing/completing a big side-quest or finishing a dungeon).

This is one of the games I've been dying to pick up again and complete. I only ever got to the beginning of the flame temple.

I beat THE DRAGON boss but haven't finished it yet myself. I gamefly'd it so I'll have to pick it up someday. Definitely loved what I played though.
