Cult classic game music in electro club music...

Post by lordofduct »

Ok... the subject may make you scratch your head. I'll try to explain.

2 or 3 weeks ago I was at the local 80s electro club in town called Respectable Street. I go here mostly for the music and the fact that I know quite a few of the regulars so it is comfortable for me. Anyways I was just standing in the dark listening to the music getting really really pissed and shot when this song came through the speakers. My jaw hit the floor and I almost fell over in amazement...

I was hearing ToeJam and Earl music! Not similar... down right WAS TJ+E.

Seriousily I about shit my pants because of all game music to hear (which I've heard some that resemble things like MegaMan at times...) I hear a rip off of TJ+E!!!!! One of my favorite video games of all freaking time. I ran about demanding if anyone knows the video game and alas no one does. Not a single soul has ever heard of this dynamic duo of total funkitude.

So I asked Ashley the DJ girl who it was and she let me know it was this one hit wonder song by some really shitty band called "Lo-Fidelity Allstars". I have the right to call them shitty because instantly went home and located the CD online for a mere 49 cents! I bought it and 2.50 cents later and 3 weeks shipping (don't ask me why 3 weeks when it was coming from a city 2 hours from my house) I get this really awful CD. I immediately change to track 7 after realizing how horrible this CD is to listen to the song.

"BattleFlag"

The song sounded different at first then it did at the club... the beat I was thinking of wasn't as distinct and was hidden behind the rest of the music in the song. Maybe my speakers are different I'm thinking... maybe I was just really freaking drunk. And then the song does one of those drops (as all modern electro does) and bam the vocals stop all the tunes die out except...

you guess it...

TOEJAM AND EARL. I rewind and listen over and over.... which level... what zone! Is it the music to there home planet or is that the music for the desert. God what the hell is it!?

So I beg of you... anyone out there who has the soundtrack of this game... or do you know where it is available. Yeah I know I own the game but it is burried in a box as I am amidst moving at this moment and I am jonesing to find out if my assumptions are right.

oh and check out the song if you'd like. I'll upload it in this thread soon; it's smack dap in the middle of the song and I swear it is ripped strait from the God damn game. (well with a little extra kick given to it... it doesn't sound that midi like... but damn close)

What really irritates me is that here I am at work with my GP2X just inches from me. On it is a ROM of the game, but alas it must of been a bad rip or something, but DrMDx doesn't like the ROM and just freezes when I try to load it. :(

Now yes I understand the tracks are recycled through out the game... but when you play fix world (which I played a lot to raise my game play skill) certain music tracks are played at distinct points in the game.

Get the gym rip. Get a gym plugin for winamp. It's not a very accurate format, but it's the quickest way for you to check right now.

thanks! Now to figure out a way to convert that format... I'll probably just play and capture. Not that great of sound quality, but eh this isn't about quality... just comparison.

OK...

Click here to download a a cut from the song

I cut out the part where it is most distinct in the song just before it breaks back into the rest of the beats. Now just picture TJ+E and then drop the beats deeper (with more bass) and slow it down slightly and strait up this is TJ+E.

Please dl and compare... let me know. If you've dl'd once though please don't dl again, I don't have as much bandwidth on that website as I'd hope for. (I got it like 7 years ago for really cheap with a 10 year subscription... but the draw back is the bandwidth is as limited as it was back 7 years ago).

Yeah, I've heard that BattleFlag song before. They are kind of a shitty band.
