Those people lie to you constantly. So if you buy their product based on what they say half the time you're fucked. That's as good as stealing to me. That's also what wclem was trying to explain...

Re: Megaupload Dead
Wow. This thread. Just, wow.
Re: Megaupload Dead
I have zero sympathy for people who don't understand that all entertainment is going to be marketed as "amazing" and "must see/hear/own". What do you expect: "please buy our game, worse ones have been made and we do have a few decent ideas in here" or "this movie will feel like a waste of your time, but it is marginally better than sitting in the motor vehicle office for two hours"?elmagicochrisg wrote: One word: marketing

So no, hyped marketing is not "as good as stealing" at all.
At least when you do that you go blind and don't keep seeing stupid shit afterwards. This thread keeps delivering the idiocy long after your mind has turned to mush!AmishSamurai wrote:Reading this thread has been the mental equivalent of staring at the sun.
Re: Megaupload Dead
To even suggest that "hyped marketing" is as "good as stealing" is beyond idiocy. There's so much entitlement and lack of personal responsibility in this thread it's embarrassing.dsheinem wrote: So no, hyped marketing is not "as good as stealing" at all.
Even if someone tells you "This X will be the Best X ever" the consumer makes the decision to purchase X. It's ultimately the consumers responsibility to make an informed decision as to if they want to purchase the product or not.
I'm not going to argue with anyone, just stating that some of the opinions stated in this thread seem to be coming from people who've never lived in the real world.
Re: Megaupload Dead
That is not the case. Real laws were broken concerning fraud and perjury, and they were broken systematically for profit. You should look at what William Black has to say. He's a former regulator turned academic who helped put hundreds of bankers in jail during the 1980s S&L says that both of these crises were driven by fraud.dsheinem wrote:Bullshit. Wall Street and Hollywood's shady practices are protected by bad regulatory law, and when those laws are broken people do actually go to jail, so don't pretend otherwise.
I can understand why you'd think otherwise. That's the narrative they like to pass off, that regulations were too weak, but we have laws against fraud. They choose not to enforce them against their cronies, and enforce them against people like Dotcom instead.
Did you notice that none of the defendants in this case were US citizens or accused of breaking the law in their home country? This is like one of us getting extradited to Saudi Arabia for blaspheming Mohammed. In this case, Megaupload clearly violated existing law, including those that aren't specifically about piracy.
We are prepared to live in the plain and die in the plain!
Re: Megaupload Dead
Wow. So you literally blame everyone but yourself for any entertainment purchase you make that doesn't set your world on fire?elmagicochrisg wrote:One word: marketing

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Megaupload Dead
I was recommended this topic in the ron paul topic. Ill read the whole thing later but thus far seems to have the same problem; a couple specific people trolling what otherwise is an acceptable discussion.

There's an asteroid hurtling towards Earth and the only thing that will stop it is if we play many video games with an 80+ rating on metacritic that also manage to meet our own personal definition of quality.
