Snes component out with Jrock
Alrighty.. I'm new to the mod thing. Just did my first mod yesterday, adding stereo to my nes and two mono pots. (And changed the light to blue lol)
So I'm looking for a bit of advice to get component out of my snes, been reading all day but haven't found a straight forward guide. I don't want to use a scart cable and and external rgb > component encoder. I'm looking to have the component jacks right on my snes. So my plan is to hook directly to the av connector on the pcb http://www.gamesx.com/wiki/doku.php?id= ... ndomultiav pictured top left, to a jrok rgb/component encoder 4.1 http://jrok.com/hardware/RGB.html , to some jacks i install on my snes, and then to the component input on my hdtv and the stereo on my amp.
I have to SNES at a friends house right now, if neither of them are a first generation snes, I may have to go directly from the chip to the jrok.
But before I go ordering parts and what not... Will this work?

Re: Snes composite out with Jrock
* I'd recommend checking prices before considering the mod. If you're okay with potentially spending triple digits for a minor (IMO) improvement over S-Video, that's cool.
The SNES seems problematic with reds under S-video, so if you're picky that might be a reason to upgrade.
* FWIW, I emailed the Jrok guy over 2 weeks ago with no reply. He's very busy, so I'd recommend looking for a retailer rather than trying to buy direct.
* Plan on some bumps/additional cost along the way since you don't have anyone else's success/failures to refer to during the mod.
This advice is on the heels of my recent experiences in getting component out of a Neo Geo without opening the system. There were some snags, unexpected expenses and part changes, but if you're up for it these types of upgrades can be rewarding.

Re: Snes component out with Jrock
I'm sure that I will end up spending triple digits, I think that jrok encoder is 80 dollars. But it seems worth it to me. My S-video cords always seem to get bunged up anyway.
Thanks for the advice. I've found a retailer I will be ordering tomorrow most likely.

Re: Snes component out with Jrock
It looks suspiciously simple to me. I assume the Jrok would be perfectly happy with the SNES's composite sync vs. a 'pure' sync input, but this might be worth looking into.

It looks as though Jrok supports composite sync and does not support seperate sync

Have you made sure your LCD can support 240p over component? Many don't.
Re: Snes component out with Jrock
If you ever figure this out, I urge you to document your progress and make a detailed guide if at all possible. You'd be the first on the latter front, from what I can tell.

Re: Snes component out with Jrock
If I do figure this out, I will take pictures and explain what I did. Unfortunately I never considered the tv thing. I sent an e-mail to lg asking because I couldn't find any information online of whether my lg 42LK520 supports 240p over component. Perhaps I can put the wii virtual console on 240p and test it that way? I'll have to wait till tomorrow to buy a game.
..It says my tv has RGB in? Is this just the VGA jack for pc-in? Does this mean I could give it straight rgb from my snes for better then component signal? Or is that a different signal entirely.. Got myself a little confused reading my tvs specs
I got the jrok coming in the mail, so i should hopefully have it by the end of next week.

Yeah, you can use an old VC game to see if your TV supports 240p.
Have you considered a Frame Meister? It's going to look much better than anything your TV can do. http://retrogaming.hazard-city.de/

I agree. Some TVs when displaying 240p will flicker like mad. I know mine does that.
Other TVs will display 240p but transparencies will not come up correctly. Stuff like drop shadows in shmups, 2d fighter shadows, or stuff like mega man getting hit will be invisible.
