I don't do piracy for my own personal reasons, however this statement is wrong. Stealing it via downloads takes away from sales, that's it. Nobody gets a loss, they just lose a gain. Stores pay for the items they sell, you know. If you steal something from a store, then they have a genuine loss; they can't just get a refund.

Thanks troll, Ok so justify it you certified genius. People feel like they can download pirated material because it is so easy to do and low risk of being caught. If people could steal dvds as easy, they would.

I am not speaking of who it hurts but the principal of getting something for free that you are suppoed to pay for = stealing.

I can say no to that without being a hypocrite. Simply because the analogy you are referring to is false...

And even if the analogy were to be correct -which it isn't- that still wouldn't make me a hypocrite.

I never said downloading was a 'good' thing. Just to quote myself:
I have to admit, my outrage is not completely moral. In essence I'm pissed about being cut off from a vast library of easily accessible movies. I like a good balance between watching movies legally and illegally.
I just don't lie about what and why I do it. That's all...

That's bullshit...

Yes, it's still stealing. That doesn't mean that it's not an OK way of stealing.

Its definitely shaky ground. And you assume the people who pirate wouldn't have purchased had it had it non been available for free. I think it is a mix of both, and does hurt the artists.

So when Gandhi marched to the sea and made free salt in violation of the Salt Act, he was stealing?
