My only advice then is to consider painting the console to hide the yellowing (and make it look sweet in the process).

If cleaning it doesn't work, I'm so making decals and putting some go-faster stripes on my DC to switch it into hyper mode! Although in reality, I suck at painting, so maybe I could print something off the internet. If I gave my DC style, maybe I'd have to do my joystick too when I get it. Dreamcasts are great.

Disassemble the console and spray it black (or color of choice) with acryllic spray paint. It looks absolutely beautiful. Or even go the extra mile and take it to a body shop (like the guys that colored the PS3s red and blue when they were only available in black).

Thats what I did on my DC. It looks sweet. I have pics of my DC and SNES somewhere on this site. I can't remember where they are but i'm sure if you search you will find them.

i've never heard of dreamcasts yellowing BUT i read on a website (i thought it was this one, but i can't seem to find where...) but wherever it was, they asked nintendo directly in regards to snes consoles yellowing for seemingly no reason. well, the reason behind it was indeed a chemical reason. from what i recall in the letter (from nintendo directly, mind you) was that a certain batches of snes were manufactured with a different kind of plastic. if i recall, that particular kind of plastic was cheaper at the time, so it seemed like the wisest choice to use for manufacturing the console. apparently, that kind of plastic had a reaction to long term exposure (to carbon and oxygen i assume) and thus explains the yellowing.

The chemicals were designed to flame-proof the plastic. Nintendo chose plastic with a lot of these chemicals in it for safety reasons, and the chemicals turn the plastic yellow over time.

I was lucky in that my SNES isn't of this material, but I am considering picking one up to paint it...maybe something funny, like a checkerboard or something.

My SNES is still white with Purple switches, but my friend's console yellowed something terrible when we hit our teen years. It looked about the color walls turn in homes where people smoke indoors and they turn yellow. It always annoyed my friend when he'd come over and make comments about mine not turning yellow. Mine got dropped once years ago, and the back left corner has a very small peice of plastic broken off at the seam. Not even noticable unless you look very closely, but if you are a perfectionist like I am, then that small blemish feels almost as bad as the console yellowing.
