This thread isn't nearly what I thought it was going to be about judging from the title...

Phase 2 of frankenchair complete. Successful merging of organic and inorganic support materials so the chair is stable even if it isn't pretty.

Still need to figure out how to do away with the arms and reinforce the back to compensate. May also at least paint or stain the wood bits black so they don't look so bad with the rest. Not that it will ever be pretty. But all I care is being functional.

Now all you need is a small grill and a few tiki torches and your office will be complete.

And a stereo that plays the sounds of dogs barking and drunken neighbors whooping and tearing up and down the street on 4-wheelers.

Actually that wouldn't be appropriate here. I'd need the occasional screeching and burnouts by the people that drive up the cul de sacs on either side of my apartments that don't connect into a road... because the apartments are here.

After 5 months with Frankenchair, I decided it wasn't quite good enough. The ventilation was good and took care of that need without too much loss in comfort compared to a padded chair. I never did figure out a way to ditch the arms and replace them with reinforcement though, so I was always bashing them into the cramped U of desks I have. I ended up splurging on this chair that I'd noted last summer. Just threw it together and so far it is a great improvement with no arms and I think it will work out.

Yeah. More than I wanted to spend, thus the frankenchair experiment. Hopefully it lasts.

Similar chairs on the same site for less than half that, but a man knows what he wants. Still loving my office chair. I think with an air purifier and a nice oscillating fan Hobes would be fine, but I'm also picky about my office. Ugh, spend more time here than anywhere else.
