Sega Saturn Disc Swapping and Region Code.

Post by nerdydesi »

Hi, I'm sure this will be a very obvious and "stupid" question, but I'll ask it anyways.
I have a Japanese Sega Saturn where I taped the inner level by opening it up to spin the disc when the tray is open. I've been able to swap games successfully by using a legit copy of X-Men vs. Street Fighter. Unfortunately, its gotten some scratches due to the quick swaps and all. I feel anymore damage, and the disc won't work anymore. :(

I want to ask that for disc swapping purposes, would I have to use a matching region game (aka. Japanese region legit game for a Japanese Saturn) or would an American one work as well? I ask because I don't want to abuse my copy of X-Men Vs. Street Fighter anymore and believe U.S Saturn games can be had for cheaper on Ebay than Japanese games in general.

I'm almost certain it's the other way around.

You can get a lot of NTSC-J games for cheap.

For example:

What part of the world are you in? That would change things

I'm in Houston, Texas, USA. But I'll just assume that for disc swapping with my Japanese Saturn, only original Japanese games will work, not games from any other region?

You know what, I did find cheap Japanese games on Ebay, of course not really popular titles, but that doesn't matter for me.

In most cases, sometimes you can get lucky and find US games for dirt cheap though.

Haha, my question still hasn't been answered it seems.

So, can I assume that for a Japanese Sega Saturn, I need a legit Japanese game only to perform the swap with a burnt game, any other region legit games won't work?

Also, how are you guys managing to swap discs without scratching them? I feel so stupid. Maybe I'm swapping out the discs too fast but eventually, I get scratches on them, especially circular scratches on the outer ring portion, and I'd hate to get those especially on my legit copies. :( :(
