Wii Mod

Post by SpaceBooger »

With the Wii in on it's last legs, Im thinking about softmoding it using Lego Star Wars (The Complete Saga) since I have the most recent update installed on my console.
Im kinda nervous... how hard is it and is it worth it?
Lastly, would this be the best method and what else should I install after the mod?

It's not hard, you just need to follow the instructions and do what it says on the screen. The risk of screwing things up are incredibly small.

Personally I've got a bunch of homebrew games on there, although I know that a lot of people run iso loaders lately

Do you have to go through that process every time you want to boot homebrew or do you just load the save file each time? Just curious.

You do it once and it is done. Install the Homebrew Channel and you are set.

Booger, it is simple and easy to do. I have had mine modded for three or four years now and the only time I regretted it was when Monster Hunter came out and I could not load it off of my harddrive. The next day the loader was patched and it worked fine, but that one day kinda irked me. Having it softmodded also means you can manage your gamecube memory cards on it (like transferring saves to your pc), and you can move saves that are locked to the console - ie Twilight Princess.

I am mainly doing this so I can play a couple N64 games (aka Super Mario 64) on my Wii. If I did mod it how do I go about playing that game... emulation or the getting the VC version? Which is the better route?
Also, backups... playable or not?

I haven't softmoded my Wii, but... http://hbc.hackmii.com/about/

After reading the info on that site, apparently there's a lot of stuff they call "fail packs." I would get my installer from that site to avoid getting a fail pack.

Backups will be playable in one of several ways. Personally I like the Harddrive loader. It takes a jumpdrive, sd card, or harddrive that is properly formatted and lets you load games off of it. I bought a 500 gig one that lives with my Wii. But you can just install a backup loader and run burned games - I used this to play Gamecube imports.

N64 games you have two options. Install the wads of Virtual Console games, or run Wii64. I suggest Wii64 for its ability to remap controls. It is not as a good as a VC game, but it is good enough for a lot of titles.
