"Jill sandwich" scene doesn't occur?

I'm playing Resident Evil: Director's Cut right now and I can't get the scene where Barry saves Jill from becoming the infamous "Jill sandwich".

I walk into the room grab the shotgun, the lever raises up and then I leave the room. Now when I'm in the room with the ceiling slowly falling I try the door. It's locked. Okay, that's supposed to happen. But I try the door back to the room where I found the shotgun and it's open.

If I stay in the room Barry won't come and I'll become said Jill sandwich.

...Anyone have a clue why Barry won't save me? Maybe I've played the game's scripted events in such a sequence that I can't access the scene...

He didn't, but I wonder if having the broken shotgun causes this case.

I don't have the broken shotgun but I do have access to the room that it's in. Maybe Popo is right...

I was playing Barry's scenario but I got sidetracked by other games... Now I've picked it back up again. I figured I'd beat Jill's scenario first because it's a bit easier.

Got the shotgun.

Basically don't play the game out of its sequence. When Barry says "Jill, search the ground floor first", you'd better do that if you want the shotgun early.

Why couldn't Jill just throw the rope back up to Barry?

Oh wait... Logic doesn't apply in video games.
