Re: Shmup of the Month Club (TRUXTON) (OP updated 1/15)

Well, 2 out of 3 games I voted for were released here. Do all three games have to be budget-friendly?

I mean, if 3 people came in that didnt want to play DB came in, they could out vote it easily. If they dont want to vote, then we should play Dragon Blaze :)

Oh, and Zero Gunner 2 isn't much better in the affordability aspect :P

I'm admittedly being selfish here, yeah, I have Zero Gunner 2 and it is pricey - I don't have Dragon Blaze and it is pricey.

So while I voted Zero Gunner 2, i'm more inclined to hype Gunbird or Strikers which are excellent AND budget friendly.

Can we get a proper poll put on page one, brunoaf? Put 10 options and we all get 3 votes, I guess the hardest part is trying to see where we are even at.

This group in this thread won't have any say in the shmups thing and my guess is we'll be forced into emulation for most if not all the weeks. So my larger point is lets control it where we can. I get frustrated w/the complications of MAME sometimes, again being selfish in that I haven't bothered to research it much - but truth is, I don't care to and only sludge through it for things like this.

I wanted to do that originally, but most devs have more than 10 shmups (I believe every one of them on the schedule do). That just creates a problem of "what 10 do we list?" I mean there are 9 games that have votes now, so we could pick one more and then do a poll, but it just seems like it's getting excessive at that point. The main goal of this group is just to have fun playing/discussing games together and try to outscore each other. I'm sure every one of us will get at least one "oh shit I love that game" month.
I guess the hardest part is trying to see where we are even at.
This I can alleviate:

+11 Dragon Blaze
+8 Gunbird 2
+4 Sengoku Ace
+4 Strikers 1945
+3 Strikers 1945
+3 Strikers 1945 II
+3 Zero Gunner 2
+2 Sol Divide
+1 Gunbird

I actually quite like how you are running this with the weighted voting, it makes it much more interesting to think about your votes and it should produce some great debates and discussions, which is what I think you are (in part) hoping for.

1 more +3 will tie gunbird 2

I feel what you are sayin Mjmjr, I tried to do what you did (pick what I really wanted, and follow it up with 2 cheaper but good titles. I am surprised so many people are voting for Dragon Blaze to be honest. If I would have known it was gonna be leading, I would have voted for something less likely to win. At least Strikers 1999 isn't winning eh?

as long as you don't call them "shumps" I'm happy.

Oh and Dragon Blaz(d)e I am not even familiar with, so that would be a good choice, but I have many GOOD memories of Strikers 1945 one & two. Psikyo Engrish for the win!

Plus, Gunbird 2 is at least a Dreamcast pickup. That's how my votes break down, what I really want first, and 2 others that would be nice -- and it does not have to be emulated every month, but I think for me a good balance of emu and real thing will work. You saw my mass Konami scores on the real thing, and you will on the real Axelay cartridge

@ExEx - waaaay too much time on your hands...

...and we are better for it. Great post dude.

@noise - how does the b/s/t for the together retro do? As in, has it been successful and would we benefit from a similar one for this thread? One more reason to get a list hammered out fast?

last night's Truxton score: 172,200 (Gen - Hard)

my Psikyo votes:
Sengoku Blade +3
Dragon Blaze +2
Gunbird +1

my experience with Axelay is akin to Lewis Black's bit about Candy corn. like an old man with alzheimer's I'm like "oh boy! Axelay!" and then I quickly realize why I haven't played it in a year. hopefully this time next month I'll have a better taste for it :?

EDIT: tonight's Truxton score: 197,300 (Gen - Hard)
must. break. two. hundred. thousand...
