BONE'S DYSTOPIAN PREDICTIONS
Yes, I think the Wii U/Xbox 720/PS4 (or whatever they end up calling them) will be the last generation of home consoles and the 3DS/Vita will be the last generation of handhelds. Smart phones will replace the handhelds and PCs with integrated television/gaming will replace home consoles. The Japanese game market is going to crash in America and developers will cease localizing and translating their games. The most popular software will be Western casual phone games and DLC-laden pay-to-win Hollywood-style titles for "Smart TVs." Physical games (carts and discs) will cease to be produced at this time too, of course. These developments will dissatisfy many people of course, so expect to see retrogaming become even more popular and trendy during the next few years. The price of the average NES/SNES game is going to triple by 2015.

I really doubt hand-helds will die out completely in the USA, not everyone can afford to pay for internet chargers for there phones every month, I sure can't nor do I want to a phone is a phone, I even got them to deactivate the texting on my new phone so all it does it calling.

If you ask me, I think its possible that consoles CAN disappear. TV's will have like a processor and a graphics card, and an HD. You can download the games and play them on the tv. No need for addition device for gameplay, or it just can have a built in console with the TV having a place to slide in your CD.
Its already happening with OnLive, and their console is small enough to be built into any tv

I don't think consoles will dissapear in the forseeable future. The game companise don't have any incentive to do so and the TV companies are ignorant about the topic, won't see the opportunity and even if they did they wouldn't be able to do it right or garner any sizable support.

I could actually see sony doing something like this. I'd imagine there'd be a market for an HDTV with a built-in Ps3 (or Ps4 or whatever?)BRIK wrote:Maybe Sony will start integrating their new systems into their TV?
There's an old CRT TV with a built-in NES if you hunt around. I know where one is locally, often thought about getting it.
