I was thinking about this lastnight, I have bought tons of DCs here in the US and I have never had one not play a burn before. I'm not sure about the PAL edition, but I think its safe to say all NTSC models will play backups.

howdy selfdestroyer and vlame , i think i was i little unclear and or wrong. Im mean the dreaded before October 2000 problem , im looking to buy a few spare M/B's........

i thought KATANA VA0 or KATANA VA1 would determine either before and after October 2000

Mine is from July 1999 and plays burns... what is this before Oct 2000 problem??

though it's unlikely, if your system does crap out i have an extra motherboard (dunno what version but it does play CDR, it's a tested pull) and an extra GDROM drive i can sell

I don't think I've met or chatted with anyone who had a Dreamcast model that didn't play burns, so I'm not sure how reliable the whole later revision thing is.
