They released that on Saturn? Nice! That's one less reason to want a Jaguar.

That's what I thought when I found it, I was always under the impression it was only on the jaguar.

Yep its on Saturn discovered that last week while i was scouring the net for Saturn info. I have to visit one of these thrift stores on day. I suspect since i live in a major US city there has to be a decent one around with some treasures.

I'm selling the PC version and it was also released slightly tweaked as Tempest X3 for PS1.

The fact that only one person mentioned Bulk Slash leads me to believe that you all need to play it.

Looks good abeaver do you need to know Japanese to play this game. Hyper Duel seems cool, playing that, never seems to be mentioned in many Shootemup conversations.

Hyper Duel is great. the saturn is a shmup fan's wet dream, imo. the sheer volume of quality shooters combined with the excellent controller and awesome first-party arcade stick make an awesome experience.

Blast Wind
Batsugun
Battle Garegga
Radiant Silvergun
the Thunder Force Gold Packs
Donpachi / Dodonpachi
Shienryu
Gunbird
Layer Section I/II
Darius II / Darius Gaiden
Kingdom Grandprix

many more, but that's just off the top of my head.

i've contemplated picking up another NTSC-J saturn and just focusing on the shmups because they're of such high quality. then i remember that i'd be spending around $2000 to get the ones i really wanted :)

The Jaguar version is still the best version though, especially since:

Wikipedia wrote:The Sega Saturn version, programmed by High Voltage Software, uses a limited amount of sound channels, causing thin sound. In this version, the third type of bonus level has been completely removed.

and

Wikipedia wrote:Tempest X3, the PlayStation version, was released on November 30, 1996, with updated graphics and sound. However, the following gameplay differences from the original version were identified by Jeff Minter in a Usenet post:[citation needed]

-The "AI Droid" only follows the player, instead of acting autonomously. A new, "Mega Droid" powerup rectifies this somewhat, but it takes a very long time within a level to acquire it.
-Pulsars now move slowly around the top of the Web if they reach it (rather than electrifying the whole top edge the moment they arrive).
-The Particle Laser is no more effective than the normal laser against Spikes (in the original, it destroys them very quickly).
-Some of the harder, "sticking point" webs have been removed from the game entirely.

Even if they play just fine, trust me, you want that music to sound as awesome as it can

The Jaguar one is the only one that supports a spinner. So it's still the definitive version.

I'd sure like to find a Nuon someday to play Tempest 3000 on.
