Geist Force has gone to the presses!

Post by Anthony817 »

That's right folks, Geist Force is now in the pressing process and Assembler said he should get the copies next week!

http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/sh ... post556132

For those that don't know, Geist Force is an unreleased Dreamcast game that was found last year and a LONG fiasco ensued and problems arose, but it wasn't the fault of Assembler, it was more or less the people hired to do the pressing.

Well this was supposed to be Sega's answer to Star Fox 64, and Sega of America said it was too shitty to go to production(The game was developed in Japan), so it was canceled. I don't see anything wrong with it, not a huge fan of Star Fox but I do like Rez and Panzer Dragoon is nice for a new 3D on rails shooter.

So it was shot down as a "kuso-ge", was it?
Well, I'm glad they dusted it off and gave it a whirl anyway.
I like the wormy critter they're seen rolling off the cliff in the demo. :)

Im not on assembler but i knew their was a huge FIASCO to say the least surrounding this game and i lost interest. Some of it didnt make sense to me. Is it playable past stage 1, the game didnt look to bad to me. I bet a-hole Stolar had something to do with the cancellation.
Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast

Actually, I need to make a correction there, SOJ did not develop this game, it was SOA, BUT the funny thing here is that the beta we are getting is only Japanese, so how did Sega of America do it if what we got was Sega of Japan's version of the game? This leads me to believe there might be other versions of the game out there, as the first version found was a BLUE GDR, meaning an European beta disc, but it was screwed beyond all repair.

What we got the second time was an orange GDR, something reserved for NTSC systems from Japan and North America. I am guessing we got a Japanese beta disc for obvious reasons.

Check out my ReviveDC blog entry here to get more back info on this whole thing.

http://rdcproject.blogspot.com/2012/01/ ... -here.html

I went more into detail than I did here and the other sites I posted this news on. Read that and then let me know what you think.

@bacardipr05, I am PRETTY sure it was Bernie Stolar, you can bet your ass it was. This game was killed in 1998, just before the DC was released in Japan. Remember, he was fired just 1 day before the North American launch of the Dreamcast.

Edit, the first level crashes mid way through it, BUT it IS fully playable in all other levels. This stems from the fact that it works on dev kits perfectly, cause it is Pre-Dreamcast launch material, but also Dreamcast apparently with an early bios can play these first levels.

It could be a good thing to have a modded DC for this game, and especially an overclocked one, as it can be kinda sluggish in some levels as Assembler stated here.
Some news on the fixed version. Geist Force code is pre-dreamcast hardware. It
has no vmu, no rumble, no pause.

It also has gigantic draw distance and more polygons than most dreamcast
games I have ever seen.

Having played it extensively for testing, it is possible to overload and overheat the
dreamcast with geist force.

It may be necessary to add a fan to the dreamcast for this game, and for optimal
gameplay OVERCLOCK the dreamcast.

It is fully playable on a normal unmodded dreamcast, it's just required you stop
shooting during slowdown, then machine does not overheat and reset.

Some example:

In one stage the game spawns 4-5 rotating black hole galaxies and
5-10 gigantic planetary fortresses. Add in enemies and the game
slows down considerably. I would consider the visuals to be XBOX
quality and pushes the dreamcast something terrible.

Note: Metal heat pipe units seem to be immune from overheat.

Good to know this didnt die out, it seemed that way a couple months ago when they were having issues with getting the discs made.

If all levels other than a part in the 1st stage is playable, how would you get passed the first level? Is there some sort of level selection you can do? Or is it some sorta cheat code you have to use to access the other levels?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just now saw the video on Anthony's blog.

Yeah, since this is a beta, it has dev menu controls on the main menu. So you just select any level you want to play.
