Re: Anybody Into Collecting Knives?
Hmm..it is certainly tempting, especially at that price. Maybe if I can get rid of a few more knives I'll check it out.

Re: Anybody Into Collecting Knives?
I'm certainly no edge collector, but FWIW here are the few I have.
The top is not a flexible blade, but it resembles a fencing foil with its thin blade and cup over the handle. The decorations give it a Spanish flavor and it has a leather scabbard, but it is just a decorative piece I'm sure.
The second saber is pretty abused and I suspect it was owned by a theater company at some point. The blade is made in India and while it is also surely just a decorative piece, when I had the handle off the blade and was trying to clean it up a bit, I bumped it while it was balanced across a trash can and it actually rang rather nicely.
The white one is just your average crappy cheap Chinese display sword. It was given to me for free as the sheath is a little damaged.
The left bayonet is a WWII German model with J. Weithmann - Augsburg on it. It was the first pointy thing I purchased and it just happened to be at a local antique shop and I thought it was cool. I didn't buy it specifically because it was Nazi vintage.
The right bayonet came from a random flea market I went to while at school in another state. It was made by Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co in Solingen, Germany. The company is still around and makes ceremonial swords such as those for the US military apparently. The handle inlays are wooden but I have no idea how old it is.
My cheap Imperial pocket knife is generally relegated to box opening duty for the most part.
The steel next to it came from my grandfather and has a bone handle. I really need to learn how to use it and shore up my cheap kitchen knives.

Re: Anybody Into Collecting Knives?
That's a neat collection you have there Hobie.
I think the bayonet on the right is probably from the 1880's on up to WWII era. It looks like a Mauser bayonet, but I don't know enough about that kind of stuff to say for sure.
Also, that saber may be more real than you think. They made millions of those things, so they turn up everywhere.

Thanks. That was supposed to say "made in India" for the saber.
Plenty of other interesting things people have posted too.

Re: Anybody Into Collecting Knives?
This is Horseman, in case you haven't seen my thread yet.
I don't neccesarily collect, but I have a decent amount I own. I have about 6 CASE knives, 1 small blue one, two yellow Trappers, one bone handled trapper, a guthook (might be fake, not sure), and my carry knife, which is a large CASE. (I'm not sure what you call it. It has big wood handles and two blades. One tip is broke off one blade. Its 6-7 inches open.)
Because I can carry a big knife and a gun in Texas.

Re: Anybody Into Collecting Knives?
Cheap set of steak knives in the kitchen, multi-tool and Swiss Army Knife on my keyset, pocket knife above my desk, some odd India style half-blade, and two sets of Samurai swords nailed to thew all.
If there is one sword I want to collect, it would be a stylized claymore.
[Edit] Scratch that, I'm thinking of a broadsword/zweihander.

Did anyone else have a butterfly knife when they were a kid? I know things are a little different these days, but I remember being able to get a butterfly knife from stores in your local mall on the cheap. They were of awful quality, but that also helped prevent any accidental self inflicted wounds.
Maybe one day we'll see:
Weapon > Eqiup > Butterfly Knife

Re: Anybody Into Collecting Knives?
I was a Cutco salesman for a summer. I think it was in 2000, if memory serves. I sold over $10,000 worth of their knives in a 3 month period and they sent me to something they called "the conference of champions". I got a letter of recommendation from the head of the company and a free river rafting trip. I quit soon after because I had largely done the job to prove a point and to win the river rafting trip. It really was miserable work. I still have a full set of knives though, most of which I won from various sales competitions. They are excellent quality knives.

Thought I'd let everyone know that in 2012 I was an idiot, and I now carry a knife. It's very handy.

Congratulations! What possessed you to carry one and what kind of knife is it?Valkyrie-Favor wrote:Thought I'd let everyone know that in 2012 I was an idiot, and I now carry a knife. It's very handy.
