What are Your 2012 Gaming and Collecting Goals?
Re: What are Your 2012 Gaming and Collecting Goals?
I want to get into the Saturn this year, get some of those imports, less serious games, more arcade-type games. I also want to get some of my friends to appreciate gaming so I'll have someone to play with.
I don't collect, so those are all my goals.

I've been thinking about trying to get every fighting game released for the Saturn. But I really have no clue about how many that would be. I'm mainly thinkin g 2d fighters only not really sure though. Probably just do either north American releases or Japanese kinda leaning towards Japanese though since the cases look so much better and those saturn long boxes suck. I did just pick up my fist import today.

Re: What are Your 2012 Gaming and Collecting Goals?
Quarter of the year has gone past, how are we all doing?
Gaming Goals:
- Beat some classic point 'n' click adventures - Started up Grim Fandango, then kinda stopped playing it...
- Whittle down my unbeaten Final Fantasy and Sonic the Hedgehog games. - Beat Sonic Adventure DX, but haven't got through any Final Fantasy because I've had Xenoblade on my plate.
- Try out a few classic home computer games on my Amiga and Commodore 64. - Still haven't purchased a new adapter for my Amiga or a new Datasette for my C64, so no progress here.
- Beat at least half of the games up for Together Retro this year! - I'm at 3 for 3 so far, so it's going well.
- Have 4 or Less unbeaten games per system on my backloggery before my Birthday (Dec. 24th). - I'm down to 4 or less on all consoles but Game Gear (where I have 5) and Wii...where I have 12
Collecting Goals
- Buy at least one new game for all of the following systems: NES, SNES, Xbox, PS2, Mega Drive, Dreamcast, Commodore 64, Amiga, Turbografx. - I picked up Panzer Dragoon Orta and Dead or Alive 3 for XBox, Final Fantasy X, X-2, Freak Out and Tekken Tag for PS2 and Soul Calibur and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 for Dreamcast. I haven't picked up any games for NES, SNES, Mega Drive, C64, Amiga or TG16 yet.
- Buy a whole bunch of cheap DS games while the prices are low (This should be easy
) - I actually havent bought any DS games, I ended up buying loads of cheap Wii games instead
- Acquire one or two new consoles from this list: PSP, Mega CD, Wonderswan color, Atari 2600. - I got myself a PSP, so this is done. I wouldn't mind a Wonderswan before the year is out though!

Gaming Goals:alienjesus wrote:Quarter of the year has gone past, how are we all doing?
-I want to 1cc a well-respected shmup - Nope
-I want to delve into both classic JRPGs and classic WRPGs even further than I did last year - Do Ys 1 and Golden Axe Warrior count on the JRPG front? Haven't played any classic WRPGs yet this year.
-I want to find a point and click adventure game that I actually enjoy - Nope.
-I want to play considerably more PC games (or cross platform games on PC) than I did last year - Nope.
-I want to spend less time gaming and more time writing about gaming in a meaningful/thought-provoking way (and for a broader audience) - Yup.
Collecting Goals
-I want to set a clear goal by the end of January for a "major thing" to collect for the year (I know this is a cop out, but I need more time to think it over!) - I think I chose pinball games, and have done a little collecting - not very aggressively, yet...
-I want to round out my PSP and Wii collection when these consoles start getting phased out (already have a good start on this
-I want to pick up the vast majority of the remaining Atari 2600/7800/Jaguar games that I have interest in owning. - Nope.

Re: What are Your 2012 Gaming and Collecting Goals?
Gaming Goals:
Finish the classic Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star games.
Still need to finish Phantasy Star IV and FF III.
Finally beat Operation C.
Not yet.
Stop sucking so bad at shmups.
LOL not gonna happen.
Complete a couple of Western RPGs.
Not yet, but I do have that D&D anthology now so this should be easier.
Collecting Goals:
Acquire more classic CD RPGs (Sega CD/Turbo CD/Saturn).
I now have Vay and Ys Book I & II. It's a start.
Acquire most of the current gen games from my Amazon wishlist.
The list is down to 25 games, most of them cheap and easy to find.
Finish (or at least come close to finishing) my Final Fantasy Collection. I still need the WonderSwan Color version of Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, the Crystal Chronicles Wii game, and of course the new games.
Been working on it. Still need XI, XIII-2, and FF for WSC.
Get more games for the following systems: 3DO, Master System, TurboGrafx-16, Neo Geo AES, and Neo Geo Pocket Color.
I have gotten some 3DO and Master System games.
Complete my Commodore 64 system. I need the datasette and I'd like to track down the official joystick too.
Haven't done this yet.
Maybe get a Vita before the year ends.
Bought one a couple weeks ago!

Re: What are Your 2012 Gaming and Collecting Goals?
Definitely been working on that one.Continue buying PC games (PC collecting is a goal without end, you know?)
Haven't really done much on this goal.Buy the last handful of DS games I want that I don't have
I've been doing OK with this one.Buy the last handful of oXbox games I want that I don't have
Kinda fail here.Buy the last handful of N64 games I want that I don't have
Complete fail.Upgrade my entire N64 collection to CIB
Moar complete fail.Buy a next-gen system of some sort: either a revision-model 3DS, a Vita, or a Wii U
This is quite a streak of loser-ness here.VGA Box for my Dreamcast
OK, now it's getting ridiculous.Component cables for my Gamecube
HOW MUCH MORE FAILURE MUST I ENDURE?!I have no real gaming goals other than to keep working on my backlog.
Finally, a small victory. Also I want to hit 4000 posts this year (it'll be difficult to reach, but I'll try.)

Re: What are Your 2012 Gaming and Collecting Goals?
Man, this seems like yesterday, but now we're basically halfway through the year! Updates?alienjesus wrote:Quarter of the year has gone past, how are we all doing?
Gaming Goals:
- Beat some classic point 'n' click adventures:
Started up Grim Fandango....again. Its on my Summer list too. I acquired lots of new point n clicks though, including Monkey Island most recently
- Whittle down my unbeaten Final Fantasy and Sonic the Hedgehog games:
Beat Sonic Adventure DX and Final Fantasy IV
- Try out a few classic home computer games on my Amiga and Commodore 64:
Still haven't purchased a new adapter for my Amiga or a new Datasette for my C64, so no progress here.
- Beat at least half of the games up for Together Retro this year!:
I'm at 4 games beaten for 5 games played so far, as I skipped Wolfenstein. Only need 2 more!
- Have 4 or Less unbeaten games per system on my backloggery before my Birthday (Dec. 24th):
Wii is down to 6, Game Gear is at 5 and PC is at 8, but everything else is there already. Doable.
Collecting Goals
- Buy at least one new game for all of the following systems: NES, SNES, Xbox, PS2, Mega Drive, Dreamcast, Commodore 64, Amiga, Turbografx:
Acquired: NES - Mario 2 & Ducktales, SNES: Super Ghouls n Ghosts, Xbox - Panzer Dragoon Orta & DOA3, PS2 - Stretch Panic & Tekken Tag, Dreamcast: Tony Hawk 2 & Soul Calibur. Not acquired for: Mega Drive, C64, Amiga, TG16.
- Buy a whole bunch of cheap DS games while the prices are low (This should be easy
Picked up Phoenix Wright 3, Trauma Centre & Kirby: Mouse Attack. This has been a harder mission than anticipated actually, because I have most of the games I see at low price points. The one or two I have seen, like Dragon Quest IX, I've been undecided on.
- Acquire one or two new consoles from this list: PSP, Mega CD, Wonderswan color, Atari 2600:
I got myself a PSP but the screen has issues and I can't fix the damn thing. I haven't acquired any other consoles.
Overall I'm doing pretty nicely. I've been beating games I intended to for the most part, and picked up a few things I wanted too. My attempt at getting into home computer gaming hasnt done so great, with me playing very little Adventure games and still not getting around to getting my C64 and Amiga up and running. I might think about some addendums to my goals now I'm at the halfway point and post them here later.
