So, are we supposed to be voting for obscure shmups, or good shmups? :P

I actually don't think Axelay is one of Konami's most popular shooters. I think of the entire series of Gradius, Salamander, Parodius, and Twinbee before I think of Axelay. Hell, I would bet more people have played Gyruss than Axelay.

If you guys really want to play Gyruss I'll bite, but it won't be a very exciting month.

And wtf with those Hobie votes?

I say no changing votes. If someone changes their vote to make Gyruss win, I would then have to change my vote to make whatever ws in 2nd place win, in which case I'm sure someone else would change their vote.

I'm not for changing votes either. If there's a tie situation, then maybe a vote can be changed.

Gyruss would not be a problem, I'd just have to dig out my Atari 2600 cartridge  I used to play that for hours on end back in the day -- and of course I have access to an actual arcade machine for that so I could snap a pic with the phone and hope the score stays :D

But I think Axelay would be great. I voted for Ajax too -- played that in the 80s a lot :D

I'm not sure how I feel about changing votes. On one hand I don't think it's a big deal really, but on the other hand if the vote change is last minute and changes the winner that seems a little cheap. What do you guys think?
Why not just create a poll w/all the suggested titles, each person can have 2 votes - you can change your vote up until a time you (brunoaf) decide (about 3 days?).

Trying to pick stuff that isn't just the same old same old. Just like with Together Retro, it would be nice to introduce people to new games, not just play stuff they've played a bunch already. Gyruss and Time Pilot (the former at least) have plenty of ports available to people as well.

I swear there was a method to my madness. Guess that's keeping my Truxton score off the front page huh? :P

Had a 214K and change run, then buncha crap after and I forgot it shows the last score, not the highest. So I'm not sure exactly what it was.

Ha ha, I can see where you are coming from. I honestly figured quite a few people here might be very new to the genre. Of course a lot of us here have already played these games, but then again, I would have assumed the same about Truxton before finding out Noise had not tried it before. I am glad that we didn't pick a really obscure Toaplan game, as people who had never tried any of their games might not be enjoying them as much.

I will admit, I forgot Crisis Force was on the list for Konami, I definitely would have voted for that. Still, I don't really want to re-do the votes.

Oh, and nice score! I kinda want to try a different version, as no one here is playing the one I am, and I feel like I'm playing a version of Raiden that hates me even more than Raiden normally does.

87,230 (Area 24) MAME - 1 credit.

Old EDIT
93,990 (Area 31) MAME - 1 Credit

Newest
132,820 (Area 31) MAME - 1 Credit

I'm finally up to that stupid tank!!!
Now I have just to learn his patterns and kick his ass. I'm taking a break after about an hour or two of straight Truxton. Time for some ESP Ra. De.

I love this shmup of the month club. I feel like I am becoming a better player because of it.

Ok, so for Konami month (and whatever it is) -- I of course could fire up MAME for any arcade title if we choose to do so, but I tried out some test scores on my local arcade 60-in-1 unit, and it had quite a few of those older Konami shmups, so I can start if any of these games are chosen with these scores

Image

From the upper left corner

Gyruss -- 124,900 (Stage 13, 2 warps to Jupiter)
Time Pilot -- 140,800 (Stage 6, 1910 AD second loop)
Scramble -- 25,520 (reached the base but did not clear it)
The End -- 10,680 (Stage 3/4 ? It said CHANCE STAGE)
Super Cobra -- 6,050 (Stage 2, and in that game it's a GOOD score)
Juno First -- 37,130 (Stage 4, didn't come out that good)

But my votes I stay with if only so we could all have a console shmup

Nice progress - the tank is pretty easy, just a matter of time, I like the spread gun on him so you can get the enemies on the sides easier / quicker, and then focus on the tank. I need to fire this back up again...

So what's the Konami game? I think we should move on and keep picking the next developer so that we have them all finalized by the end of the month. No point in leaving each poll open for days on end....
