Cartridge adaptors

Post by Kasreyn »

So I just purchased a Super Famicom (yes, that's the Japanese NTSC version of Super Nintendo!).

Now I want to play US SNES games on it and I found this adaptor:

To me it looks like it only widens Japanese carts so they can be inserted in a US SNES. And that the reverse situation is not possible. Can anyone comment on this ?

The bottom looks like the rounded shape for the SuFami and the back is square for the US SNES games. At least that's what it looks like to me~

It looks right to me. sfc and snes carts are roughtly the same size just different shapes. the bottom you insert into the cart slot looks rounded on the front for a sfc and the top you insert the game into looks square for snes games.

Its alot easier to take a US SNES and just file out the clips inside the console. Throw in a 50/60 switch and you are set to play ALL games, from japan, europe, oceania, etc.
Consoles Owned: Nintendo SNES, Nintendo GameBoy Color, Nintendo GBA, Sony PSX, PS2, PS3, Sega Master, Microsoft XBox

I have a similar cart with a slot on the back like the one you posted and another one on top, I don't have a SFC to test it, but as far as I know, one cart from the console's region goes on the back and the one you want to play on top.

Yes, your situation is a little more difficult to remedy as the actual cartidge slot is curved. Way back when I was a teenager and my friend somehow got his hands on some Import cartidges (Axelay was actually one of them), we just grabbed some needle nose pliers and snapped the region lockout tabs right out of our SNES consoles! Only import I actually bought for myself was RockMan & Forte, since I love MegaMan games, and that game was never released here at the time. My SNES had the tabs broked out, so I was just able to insert the cart and go, because the cartidge slot was big enough to accomodate either region. Although I broke out the tabs, the outside aestheics of the console still look great. Other than finding some sort of extension or buying a North American SNES console, you'd have to use a dremel tool or something like that to square off the edges of the Super Famicom Cartidge slot to allow for SNES cart input. However, I seriously doubt you'd want to do that. Sorry I am not much help. Maybe find a Game Genie/GameShark/ Action Replay type device for the Super Famicom and use that? Best idea I have, good luck to you.

Yeah I agree with the SNES aesthetics logic. I've had a SNES (US) since launch and after snapping the tabs, playing JP games was never a problem.
