I just bought this game a couple days ago. I didn't see a thread after searching a bit so I figure there isn't one.
I was pleasantly surprised by this.
When I first started playing, the tutorial level left me utterly bored and really dreading the possibility of sticking with it for 20, 30, or 40+ hours (Depending on how long it lasts).
But as soon as that was over and there was a switch in scenery I'm actually really liking it. The combat is just fun enough to not be a problem, the setting and soundtrack remind me a lot of Ico to be honest, and whereas the protagonist is annoying in just about every way possible I actually find the character Weiss very interesting.

Re: Nier
Don't have it yet, but it's an intriguing looking game that sort of flew under everyone's radar. And since it seems it seems to be hovering at $19.99 at most places I'm sure I'll get it soon.
Re: Nier
I'm a very big fan of this game too. Although it's not as twisted and depressing as Drakengard (god damn that game is messed up), it's pretty damn twisted, which is always cool. Like others have said, the atmosphere and music are really special, Cavia is a great developer. The fact that a game this wonderful put them out of business says a lot about the industry today.
There is also a ton of replay value, I haven't done it all myself but in order to completely understand the story you have to beat the game 3 or 4 times. There's a really neat twist that comes into effect in your second playthrough.
I've always wanted to play Nier Replicant, an alternate version of the game that came out in Japan for PS3 (the US Nier is the 360 version of the game, but was the only one ported). Supposedly nothing is different other than the design for the main character, but still, sounds interesting.

I just got this game myself! Haven't had a chance to play it yet since I had to hook up my 360 and now I can't find the dongle to connect my wired controller to the system. XD
I have a ton of games listed at my store's site: Super Smash Video Games
Re: Nier
Actually I found it at Gamestop for only $14.99 brand new.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Don't have it yet, but it's an intriguing looking game that sort of flew under everyone's radar. And since it seems it seems to be hovering at $19.99 at most places I'm sure I'll get it soon.
Though I doubt how truly "new" it was when they had to grab the disk from behind the counter and put it in the box. :/
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

The fishing "controversy" is addressed pretty well here:

(scroll down to the Versions and Reception section)
Never trust the "reviewers" at GameSpot, IGN, Game Informer, etc...

Don't read that link! XD That thing is seriously spoilerific.
I've been using an online strategy guide when I get stuck. Helped with the fishing bit at least. I certainly didn't realize I was at the wrong fishing spot at first.
This game is seriously fun, btw, and has a lot of secrets in the plot that I haven't gotten close to figuring out yet. Love a game where the plot doesn't make me play "spot the influence" (as in "this idea came from here, and this idea came from there").

I don't (and I'm frankly insulted that you would assume I do,) but I will admit that I only saw the initial rage reaction to the fishing minigame and not the follow-up. My innate aversion to fishing minigames led me to ignore the game based on that review up to now, but I'll be keeping my eye on it in the case of a sale.BoneSnapDeez wrote:The fishing "controversy" is addressed pretty well here:
