I think X-2 is a far more interesting game than X.
You are not alone in this world, brother. Stay strong!!
It's weird, noiseredux and I have pretty similar taste in games from what I can tell, namely our love for whacked out Japanese games. But when it comes to FF, our opinions are on the completely opposite ends of the spectrum. I just couldn't see the appeal of playing pop star and dress up games with characters I hate and watching a story worse than FF X's story unfold. The gameplay wasn't redeeming enough for me to look past all the dumb shit that was thrown at me.

I think what I find so appealing about X-2 was just how weird it was. The whole pop idol thing is very WTF. I don't know, there's just something so strange about it that I can't help but think it's really interesting that they went in such a different direction. For the record, I haven't beaten it (or X actually) yet.

I also wouldn't say our FF opinions are TOTALLY opposite, as IV is certainly one of my favorites. I'm pretty sure you as well?

The dress up game thing people bring up is no different from FFV's job system, except the costumes are sluttier.

X was decent enough but I thought X-2 was a joke...

I will get XIII-2 but my expectations aren't high

And also FF V's job system wasn't a poorly designed joke that was just tacked on in the name of fan service.

No. Out. Now. No differing opinions are allowed. That one was extremely influential, but V and VI surpassed it in every way shape and form. A differing opinion? Exterminate! Bow before the great Andross! Hiel hail Hitler!

X-2's job system was poorly designed? I don't think I've ever seen anyone make that statement before.

He didn't say anything about not liking V or VI over IV, just said that IV is a favorite because he knows I like IV, and was replying to my post about thinking our opinions differ so much when it comes to FF. People can like games for different reasons, despite other games technically being superior in quality (although it's all subjective when it comes down to it). I realize your post is mostly facetious, but, letting personal bias blind you will make people less likely to take what you have to say into consideration.

Proved Godwin's law in just three pages, nice.

Perhaps poorly designed was a bad way to put it. A more accurate way to say what I meant is that it was completely uninspired, boring, and mostly pointless. The exact opposite of FF V's job system.

For those of you who played the demo, when does it start getting good?

My friend told me in school today how good he thought the demo was, and as I was playing it, I got to the section where you enter an underground ruin/tunnel system, and didn't really get the urge to play anymore.

I'll be getting this game at some point. I got 47 hours into FFXIII..and then my disc cracked for some reason. Oh well :P The monster-trading thing looks weird, and I have no idea what happened with Lightning, but it should be relaxing and entertaining like any other FF.

I really like Final Fantasy games. I do agree that FFXIII should have had towns and stuff, but it had fun combat and a totally ridiculous story full of weird characters and giant monsters, and a really awesome soundtrack.

I never really played FF for the gameplay to start with. It's always really easy even when you go underleveled, and it's always pretty linear, which I think is good because of the storytelling. But that's why I like it. It's light entertainment. The pretty art and fantastic music pull you in and the leisurely, amicably-paced gameplay is something really special because gaming is usually about speed. For me, Final Fantasy is all about relaxation. If I want hardcore role-playing I can go with Valkyrie Profile or Tactics Ogre.
