Help: Looking for Windows Media Remote

Post by Ziggy »

Hey guys. As the title says, I'm looking for a remote control for my PC, mainly for watching videos. Whether it be DVDs or clips. I mainly just want something that I can pause, fast forward and rewind with. Additional features would be great (like being able to navigate DVD menus) but those are the core features I'm in need of.

Question: Pretty much all of the ones that I've looked at say they're for Windows Media Center. Will these remotes also work with Windows Media Player? I pretty much exclusively use WMP, and I hate Media Center.

Does any one own a remote that they would recommend?

Thanks!

this works fine and it can emulate the mouse well too. there are others, you shouldn't need anything too fancy.

Do you have one of those?

I don't have a problem buying the cheap no brand name stuff, but I never seem to have luck with it. For $10 shipped, I don't mind the gamble.

I have a USB wireless PS3 controller. If you want to be cheap you can use something like that with JoyToKey.

I use Glovepie and a Wiimote as a Windows Media Remote (there are craploads of readymade scripts for all sorts of programs on the net, if you don't have the patience to create your own).

It can also work as a mouse using the sensor bar (but I have no interest in going through the calibration process)

So I bought this one and it came in the mail today. Pause, play, stop, fast forward, rewind, skip forward/back and full screen buttons all work in Windows Media Player. The integrated mouse also works. That's all I tested so far (that's all I wanted it for) but it seems VERY decent for the price.

Do you use Windows 7? If so, I'll buy one of these too because I really want one.
