How can spambots register?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The one that disturbed me was the one that was 'fifthcolumn bot' or something like that. I remember seeing it a lot months ago.

Weird. The only ones that seem to join us these days are Google and Bing. They sound harmless enough. haha

Here's an actual article to go along with what I was saying about people being paid to do captchas and such as opposed to bots.

Thanks for the article. I've always thought spambots were actually people because of their poor engrish.

They're not spambots. They are actually from Google, Bing or whatever searching the web to add to their search engine listings. Or something like that, been a year since I studied CSS :P

On forums I admin I like to implement a Q&A as part of registration. I come up with a bunch of random questions that require specific answers like "What color is Sonic?", "Name an Italian Plumber" or "Please type verbatim the entire dialog found in the game Silent Hill, you have 15 minutes. GO!". And yes, the user can request a different question. This has drastically cut down on spammers for us. Before that I had to approve each new member and that is a huge pain. Every once in awhile one will slip by.

Those are spider bots indexing for search engines. We're talking about the people posting iphone sales, movie download pages that are likely full of viruses and trojans, and things like that.

Yeah I know, but I presumed that someone mixed those up because you can see them in the online now section at the board index.
