Rental Stickers on PS3 Discs

Post by SpaceBooger »

I was thinking about picking up a couple used Blue Ray movies from FamilyVideo.com, but I worry about the rental stickers on the inside part of the disc. Will these cause any damage or extra wear on my PS3 more than a movie without a sticker?

I ask this because I know that the old blockbuster stickers that were on just one side threw off the balance of the disc when it spins, but I was worried about a sticker messing with putting the disc in a PS3 and removing it since there is no disc tray.

Family Video has plenty of stores in my area. I've purchased DVDs from their stores multiple times and can assure you that the stickers they currently use are easily removable.

I detest stickers on DVDs, CDs, games, etc. Game stop are obviously some of the worst offenders, but there's others...
They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe, yet.

What is the best way to remove the security stickers on the inner ring of the DVD?

Gamestop aint got nothing on Blockbuster.

I don't really know about removing security stickers from a disc I would guess to steam it off? But I really don't know.

Blockbuster is the absolute worst offender, and not just towards discs. Their cartridge stickers are nigh irremovable (without ruining the label, that is.)

If they are a normal kind of sticker or one that leaves 'void' behind, you can probably carefully peel toward the center and then clean up with goo gone or something. I use my all purpose wonderstuff contact cleaner. If they are evil like those disc skins or designed to shred into little pieces, then it can be anywhere from a pain in the ass to unsafe to try and remove them.

So if some are unsafe to remove... how much damage can a sticker on the inside ring do to a PS3? Or should I not be worried.

You can peel them off by hand for a pretty clean removal. I've never had a problem with residue from their stickers, but you could use goo gone if it becomes troublesome.

Well, I ruined a SF III Third Strike trying to remove one of those nasty Blockbuster skins. It actually peeled up the reflective layer a bit in the middle of the disc. The disc was already have problems and only loaded 1 out of 10 times, I'm convinced it was because of the skin with the metal strip making in wobble so it was hard to read.

If it is a thin one that doesn't have crazy glue it should probably be fine though I'd peel toward the center of the disc to be safe. The kinds of stickers that leave VOID behind are usually not too sticky since they'd love to shame you into paying full retail for being a dumbass. If they use thin white ones like this, they're not hard to get loose either.
