Will Sega ever come back?

Post by Kevman »

After the death of the dreamcast Sega was no longer a system making company any longer. Thisis really sad because I think that most Sega systems were ahead of there time.

It's not like Sega is non-existent anymore, they still make games and such. Do you think sega will ever make systems again?

Nope. Sega lost too much money on previous systems. They probably would have to put a lot into a new console too, and money they don't have anymore. The videogame market doesn't need a 4th system out there anyways, people will most likely remember SEGA's failures from the past and not buy. That and sonic has died, which has always been a big part of Sega systems.

they will just produce games from here on. i wouldnt be surprised though if they found some extra dreamcasts in their warehouses sometime and released them at a bargain.

I really wish people would stop asking this question. This site is kinda becoming like Ground hog day, cept not as funny. Next someone will ask about how to clean yellowing snes consoles or what will a Genesis look like on a HDTV.

As far as Nick944's comment that it would cost too much for them to release a new console. Well sure it is still most likely out of reach of Sega, but I think the Wii has shown that with a little innovation you can make a cheap console that is for all intents and purposes better than anything else on the market. Those intents obviously are fun. Those purposes are making money. :)

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

For SEGA it's all about the Arcades... when they make a comeback then so will SEGA.

No, I can't see Sega ever jumping back into the console foray. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo have deep pockets and the technology not to mention the marketing know-how to get their games out there. Sega just can't compete in this area anymore.

Plus at least to me they don't have a marketable "Character" in Sonic anymore. Over the years they've just completely ruined him as a Racketboy article stated. I hate the new look of the character, that's why I like the good old days of Sonic and choose to remember them.

Sega lost the war long ago, and to the victor goes the spoils. That being said I'm still a diehard Sega man.

What has SEGA made recently that was actually must-have quality? I'm curious to hear some opinions on that...

I'd say lately - Virtua Fighter 5 and Yakuza/Ryu Ga Gotoku series. The Total War series also carries Sega's name as a publisher which can't hurt, though Creative Assembly is the developer.

I could see them throwing themselves down the path of console manufacturing again. People had very negative feelings about Sega when the Dreamcast came around. Times have changed, the Dreamcast has the respect it deserves, and there are millions of people out there who, although they doubt Sega could ever come back, probably have hope buried deep down that they will. If Sega could just appeal to those people, a major market could open up to them. Also I read an above comment about there being no room for a 4th system. The way Sony is going, I'm not convinced there will be anything after PS4. They've sold about 13 million PS3s, and thats not a very good number for a company that dominated last generation. Their reputation isn't very good either at this point. If they trouble like this next generation I can't see a PS5 being a viable option.

I see Sega possibly coming back around 2018.

If they pull their act together I can see them coming back around 2012-2015
