Repairing a multiple system video cable

Post by vlame »

I found a gigaware s-video cable for PlayStation, 360 and wii. All of the out ends are fucked up bad. The system ends look perfect. Would it be easy to solder new cables to it?

I can't imagine it would be difficult.

Soldering on the contacts in side a plug can be a little fiddly when there are 5 or more, but for plain old 2 contact ones it is easy. The main thing is making sure you get the wires right. If the RCA ends are just a little crushed, then you can check for continuity through the cable, write notes, then make sure again after stripping before you solder. If some are just gone, go to gamesx so you can look up the pins and do continuity checks to figure out what is what.

Of the 4 tips:
1 is fine
1 is missing the metal
1 is totally ripped off
The s-video pins are bent or missing.

Got any pictures? It sounds like it would be pretty straightforward to fix. You might want to scrape or snip the wires back a bit first to avoid the problems of soldering oxidized wire.

Sounds like it should be just a matter of tracing which is which then and adding new plugs. The S-video one will be a bit tricky with 4 wires and being small.
