Re: shmup compilations
Taito Legends 2 is also on the PC, where I have it (crappy DRM and all)Soldier Blue wrote:Taito Legends 2 has quite a few shumps on it. Released on the PS2 and xbox
But yes, 1/3 of the lineup is shmups, and good ones that were hard to find in arcades, at that.
Keep in mind that there are 4 exclusive games to the Xbox/PC and PS2 versions. PS2 adds another shmup I believe.

Re: shmup compilations
Hm... Gradius III and IV for PS2 is a very cheap compilation. Solid games, but only two. Worth every penny though. The Taito Legends compilations are definitely legit as well.
On the expensive side of things, there is the awesome Thunder Force compilations and Toaplan Shooting Battle. Both JP-only, but I recall your thread about being able to play JP Saturn games, so no problem with TF, but Toaplan Shooting Battle is JP-only PS1.
Thunder Force Gold Pack 1 includes TF II & III. I have a bit of a gripe with this release though because the music is all screwed up. Gold Pack 2 includes TF IV & TF Spirits. These conversions are nearly arcade perfect and I highly recommend them. Toaplan Shooting Battle includes nearly arcade perfect ports (as well as touched up versions) of Kyukyoku Tiger, Tiger Heli, and Twin Cobra.
