It would be like printing money which they like to do with all their redesigns.

They are probably planning something.

Tomato (the guy who did the M3 translation) did a post on his blog once detailing all the potential issues that could crop up with putting Earthbound on the VC. It was a pretty lengthy list.

It's already been shown that many other titles existing on VC have even more blatant potential legal issues than Earthbound.

Nintendo of America must be very shorthanded or busy doing something. I mean, they didn't want to bring Xenoblade et al despite all the work being done for them other than printing a cover. Imagine how horrified they must feel when considering having to program the Earthbound VC emulator, run the battery of tests, and provide customer support. All for a measly $9000 or so they would make in sales. Face it, not many people will buy the VC. There are probably more people interested in having the physical CIB than the VC game to play.

My mistake. I had never checked myself, but a video review I recently watched claimed that it was.

However, the game was re-released on GBA, which would entail just as much legal scrutiny, if not more, than a VC release.

As a side note, I just sold my CIB Earthbound for $700. I paid $360 about six months ago. I will feel really stupid when the price breaks $1000 by the end of this year.

*edit* Haha, I just looked at some of the "offers" that people sent me on Ebay, which were automatically declined. Someone offered $150. Another offered $450 with a comment berating my asking price. Another guy offered $550 claiming "this is the highest I can go", but then he later privately sent me an offer for $650.

Earthbound isn't on the Japanese VC, but strangely there was a demo of it on the japanese version of brawl. I believe it's just one of those lazy time limit demos where the full game is actually there if you hack away the time limit. That's how the other demos on brawl are.
