Yeah I could barely do specials consistently.. Now I can do some HD combos on XIII and practice like a madman in that game.. I see no reason why I would have problems doing simple motions in 96.. I've played most KoFs as well.. I dunno maybe the timing is off for me...

Like Charge moves were excellent, but anything dealing with motions I just couldn't execute..

The PSN version of KoF96 feels off to me as well. I think the Orochi Collection on the Wii is still my favorite variant.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

That's just 96. The original MVS/AES version is pretty notorious for its unforgiving input windows. So much so that the Neo Geo CD version of 96 relaxed the input window considerably. I believe most of the ports are based on the Neo Geo CD version.

I played the MVS version a year and a half ago at a Neo Geo meet. Specials and combos are pretty rough. 97 was greatly more playable all around.

I guess that's right. 97' does seem like the iteration where KoF first really clicked with me. The gameplay was smooth, as smooth as any Street Fighter game.

Still, nothing beats '98. That game needs to be online.

Agreed. 97 was the first time I really remember thinking, "OK, this is a damned good fighting game." Funny thing is, 98 MVS went right back to the same unforgiving timing. SNK relaxed it yet again in the CD version.

I am embarrassed to admit this but I forgot it was Thursday. I even have the game downloaded to my PS3 and everything already. Oops.
