Note that at breakfast restaurants, toast is always cut. If my memory is to be believed, they always cut it diagonally.

My favorite diner serves toasted italian bread whole. I even found a picture of it on the web. The food looks a little greasier than it does in real life though, probably the lighting.

I toast my baguettes. Nothing better than crispy on the outside, chewey in the center, dripping with butter french bread. I'm talking real french bread. The kind that takes all day to make and is good for about 4 hours tops. But during those 4 hours....

I usually go whole. If I make peanut butter toast for my wife I'll cut on the diagonal and carve her initials in the PB.
