Emulator-Zone forced to remove Atari Emulators

Post by GSZX1337 »

The Emulator Zone has been hit with a Cease & Desist by Atari. In response, The Emulator Zone has removed any mention of the company thus forcing the removal of Atari emulators.
The Emulator Zone has received a cease & desist letter from Atari. In response we have removed all mention of the Atari trademark from the site (can't avoid mentioning it here, but I suppose mentioning it in a news post is covered by fair use). This has lead us to remove some emulators from the site as well, as it would be tricky to tell what these emulators can do without mentioning the company name. Our apologies to anyone inconvenienced by this.
You can read more about it on their forum thread here:

That C&D is plainly fraudulent on Atari's part. There is no copyrighted information in Atari emulators, and the trademark is used accurately. Atari's been issuing a boat load of faulty C&Ds for whatever reason. The right thing to do is to tell them to fuck off.

I think The Emulator Zone is afraid of is just getting pounded by lawsuits and being buried under legal fees. Even though they're in the right, they can't compete with the size of Atari.

Is this because Atari is still selling the Flashback consoles?

That might have something to do with this.

I'd guess it has more to do with them selling their own emulated games on iOS.

It seams like C&D letters can be so frivolous sometimes.
Who even owns the name "Atari" anymore?

Bummer.
Oh well.

I couldn't get most of their emulators to work properly anyway.
