If you want a good mystery/detective show, then definitely yes. Don't go in expecting heavy cyberpunk (like the first movie) or lots of action.

I'm a huge fan. Honestly I think it took the series to finally make me appreciate the movies. The movie, a lot like Oshii's other directed movies, kind of just assumes you already know the characters and backstory, as he just goes all out with atmosphere and puts that first. Character development is a complete afterthought, lol. So my problem with GITS over the years was that I just didn't really care for any of the characters, but that's a different story with SAC. With a lot more length you have a lot more time to get to know them, and Motoko was a lot more lively and kind of sassy in the SAC series (and I hear she's even goofier in the manga), so basically after watching SAC I rewatched the movie and loved the heck out of it since I knew a lot more about the characters and everything going on at that point.

Compared to a lot of the mainstream shows out there too, SAC is pretty smart and mature. Takes itself seriously, and it's usually kind of rare to see a really strong female lead like Motoko.

Basically, yes. Just give a few episodes, I remember being skeptical at first, but it just got better and better to me, and I'd definitely say start at the beginning though. I thought season 2 was a great improvement over the first though. There's also Solid State Society, which is technically the third part of the SAC series after the first two seasons, it's kind of like the first movie done in SAC form, if that makes sense. Pretty similar premise and story. On that note, it's worth knowing that the movies, SAC, and the manga are all NOT directly related, so they're all best seen as alternate universes between one another.

The SAC director also did Seirei no Moribito and Eden of the East. Moribito was really good (also with a strong female lead) and I'm looking forward to Eden of the East sometime.

Finally got around to watching my dvd of the first two eps of Gundam Unicorn.

Dear lord is that show pretty even in SD.

As a Gundam fan it just feels like a love letter to long time UC fans. Its a damn shame the dvd release of it will never be completed as it stands.

Yeah, I heard about Bandai ceasing releases (US) and Turn A was canceled. Terrible.

In other news, finally got my hands on the first HnK boxset! I hope bruno is reading, picked back up with episode 14 and damn this is amazing video quality and totally worth it. Can't wait to see more and pickup the other boxsets.

Currently, I'm watching Gundam Wing. I've been meaning to watch it for years. Before that, the last major anime series I watched was Death Note. At the time I watched it, I thought it was great. But looking back on it, it's kinda... lackluster. I'll admit the scenes where Light and L are duking it out are absolutely priceless; we need more anime like this.

I posted it over in the finds section.

but if you live in the US and there's a '99 cents only store' nearby, go there and see if they have Voltron Box set DVD.

Dont know its entire distribution, but here in southern Ca they're available.

for a buck.

Granted its volume 5 and there are more before it, but for a dollar you cant go wrong.

Lots of these guys are still available for $20+

The 99 cents only store has had some anime in the past, so heres to having more cheap anime in 2012

For great justice!

Hope you enjoy the series, keep me updated on your progress if you care to. This series is truly unlike any other. You're almost past the filler.

I've been watching a lot of Transformers: Beast Wars lately. It's not Japanese, but it's a really good cartoon. It starts kind of slow, but from what I've heard season 2 is pretty much the best Transformers media you will ever watch.

Even though I watched the first ~13 episodes after Votoms, when I watched it again today I couldn't help but really compare Kenshiro to Chirico in my mind, haha. They are seriously so similar. It's not often a silent badass protagonist can really work, but these guys don't need to say anything.

It was the episode where these bandits tricked some doctor into trying to lure Kenshiro into this volcano. Girl comes to try and stop them, bandits grab her and the doctor dies trying to save her. Kenshiro then just says "Die". To the fucking point.

Gonna be good times. Don't want to sound like a video nut but the boost in quality I think did make me feel a little more glued in and now that I've seen Saint Seiya, it's really gotten me in the mood.

Also started up Slam Dunk recently, loving it.

And since Radical Lanzar brought it up, since I got the job and am busier lately I just said screw Wing and dropped it. I know I won't like the last ~15 or so episodes I had to watch, complete waste of my time.

Currently rewatching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood on Hulu (subtitled with Japanese audio) . Probably the 5th time watching the series, but it never gets old. Just having it play in the background at work while I go about my day, gotten to the point that I know what is going on in each scene without listening or reading, so it is good to take a break and look at it from time to time.

Not to mention, I can work/study in complete silence :P
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

I have the first three boxsets and they have been worth every penny. Discotek did a great job with both the tv show and the movie. I hope they will pick up the new movies at some point. Even if they don''t dub them it would be cool to have those legit in America.
