The Saturn controller for face buttons, shoulder buttons, and especially the d-pad. The Gamecube controller for analog stick and analog triggers.
Re: What are your favorite controller parts?
I know they wore out a lot, but I really like the feeling of a new N64 joystick. It has a stiffness to it that most control pads lacked, and I like that. I also like the feel of the face buttons, but much prefer the triggers and bumpers of a 360 controller, something about the click when you pull them that I like.
The Logitech Wingman Rumblepad, the original HUGE one that was released in the late 90's I think, also had excellent joystick and shoulder buttons.
As for dpads, as previously mentioned, Nintendo, in general, has that shit on lockdown.

Saturn - directional pad.
Sony - facebuttons.
Gamecube - triggers and the shape of the controller.
SNES - concave and convex facebuttons.
360 - recessed analog sticks with tiny bumps for extra grip. LT/RT triggers
Dreamcast - the shape of the controller itself is very comfortable.

Oh yeah, I don't actually care all that much for the DC but I freaking love the double VMU slot, just so that I could have a memory card and a rumble pack at the same time.
Not that controllers don't just have built in rumble these days...
I miss memory cards, though...

I'm the only one to say anything positive about any aspect of the N64 controller I see

I like it, nothing can replace memories of Perfect Dark and Goldeneye with the N64 controller. But it just doesn't have anything that is my favorite.AppleQueso wrote:I'm the only one to say anything positive about any aspect of the N64 controller I see

Re: What are your favorite controller parts?
Maybe it's because I don't have the nostalgia with the DC and N64. But I really feel the urge to slap anybody who says they have good controllers.
Seriously. I just can't comprehend it. The DC has decent buttons and triggers but it's uncomfortable, the analog stick is slippery, and the dpad is only second to the 360 pad in terrible-ness.
The N64 controller is pretty comfy but I can't stand the button layout or the sticks.

Older. Not wiser.

The N64's controller works great... for N64 games. I wouldn't use them for anything else, and I wouldn't use anything else for N64 games.
But that d-pad really is nice. It's like a slightly bigger SNES pad.

Re: What are your favorite controller parts?
I praised it like... a few posts above yours. It's my favourite controller- I even got one of those N64-to-USB adapters so I could use it as a controller for emulators.AppleQueso wrote:I'm the only one to say anything positive about any aspect of the N64 controller I see
