I'm a little confused about this point..

Why would Sony, EA, or Activision post a link on here to some pirated software? Or are you talking about the B/S/T board?

You're right. He probably has already switched or has started working on switching. I just want to him to assure us.

They post a link to pirated software so they can use it as an excuse to shut the whole site down.

That can't be right. Talking about crime, isn't a crime.

As for SOPA itself. I don't know all the details, nor do I care to read through what is probably a very lengthy and wordy bill. I feel that the Internet should be mostly unregulated and for freedom of speech. However, there are some things that do need to happen. We should at least have some sort of rating system for websites the same way we have a rating system for games, music, and movies; this for the sake of children who really don't need to see a website like Backdoor Bonanza.

Proof? Read the SOPA bill. The wording is extremely vague, so they could very well do this to shut down any website they don't like. SOPA can be used for censorship or to create monopolies. It's not actually about piracy at all.

Your wording indicated that they DO this already (or that it had been done). So there's no precedent?

As for future activity of the sort - well, I am not going to read the entire bill as the burden of proof is on you. Where specifically in the bill does it allow or encourage this kind of practice (vaguely or otherwise)?

It is hard not to take what you are saying as something more than paranoia...

Vague wording and concerns that it could be over applied. It as a sad day when all porn got outlawed.

How you could use the internet so much and still not know about SOPA blows my mind. Read the above link and also do a few searches on it. It's all over the internet because the internet will be essentially destroyed if it becomes law.

Once again, you aren't reading posts. I didn't say I didn't know what SOPA is. In fact, judging from your posts on the topic so far, I probably have more knowledge of it than you.

I asked where does it suggest that companies can plant links or files on a site like Racketboy and then report those sites? You were (I think) suggesting some kind of practice where, for example, if Activision doesn't like that we rag on Call of Duty or Nintendo doesn't like that there are NES carts in the BST, they post an illegal warez file somewhere and then report the site.

Linking someone to illegally obtained copyrighted material would be a crime, though. Could you link someone to child porn? Of course not. For SOPA, it would fall under "facilitating copyright infringement", which is expressly forbidden.
However, there are some things that do need to happen. We should at least have some sort of rating system for websites the same way we have a rating system for games, music, and movies; this for the sake of children who really don't need to see a website like Backdoor Bonanza.
Porn sites are already regulated, and every site must by law warn that those under the age of 18 are not allowed to visit a site. Other than that, I'm very much against a federally mandated rating system. Why must the governments invent another way for parents to be lazy?
