Still need to get a copy of Superman 64.
I do the same thing. As long as they're not totally broken and unplayable, terrible retro games (like Karate Champ, Athena, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Predator, Tag Team Wrestling, Deadly Towers, etc) are still fun to play and quite charming.

Modern day terrible games are just a chore, however.

Now what's wrong with Athena?

It's much too difficult, poor controls and hit direction, constant weapon downgrades, poor level design, etc. I was under the impression that this game was almost universally panned, so I'm surprised to see someone who likes it.

But as I said earlier, I find these bad 8 bit games cute and charming for some reason, so I do manage to bust out Athena about once a year.

yeah I thought I remembered loving Athena when I was younger. So gladly bought the $2 version from PSN to play it again. After oh... a minute and a half I was like "hey! Athena's a terrible game! What was wrong with me?"

I paid a premium for a copy of Killer Instinct in a box because I had to have everything including the CD. For whatever reason, that one game reminds me of a Christmas when I was a lot younger, and I think my mind gravitates to the memory of how I felt getting it that day.

When I got that shiny package from Ebay, I got that feeling all over again. Sure, the game itself isn't worth much, and I already own 2 or 3 loose copies, and I paid an extra $30 bucks just for one with the CD, but the felling I got holding it again? Priceless. I was 13 years old again.

I bought Auto Modellista because it has the same announcer as Capcom VS SNK 2...

I bought a copy of Phalanx just because I love to watch old men play the banjo.

I like to buy games based on Asian history such as Romance of Three Kingdom series, Kessen, Shogun Total War, and Koei Dynasty Warriors. The games/characters relate so much to the many drama series i watched when i was growing up, so it gives me some nostaligia feel even if i didnt even own the game then.
