Saturn Swap Trick tape mod - Discworld 1 and 2

Post by Caleb »

So when trying to play a backup of Discworld 1 and 2 I heard that you had to do the swap trick *twice*.

I have never had any trouble switching the region coding for a Saturn backup or using the tape mod and swap trick on my Model 1 Saturn.

However, I have not heard of using the swap trick twice...

...is this real and has anyone been able to do it?

Thanks.

In the sense "twice", do you mean a 2 CD game? .. I'm just trying to understand what your asking.

No not two CDs.

No I mean that people say you have to switch the disk 2x more than a normal swap to get it to boot.

Swap trick =

CDR
Real Saturn disk
CDR

Double Swap =?

CDR
Real Saturn disk
CDR
Real Saturn disk
CDR????

Or does double swap trick involve something else?

Again I have never heard of this before i tried to run a backup of Discworld.

I remember I had to use the double swap trick on my Saturn model 2 before I modded it. The CDR, Retail Disc, CDR method.

Maybe I will just try to use another retail disk to get the swap to work.

I heard that works sometime.

In any case it sucks that every other backup I have works except for these two for some reason...

This is a bit off-topic and I don't intend to insult anyone, but why don't you just play Discworld on your PC? Mouse support and all.

I never finished it but it is a good game worth playing.

With Alien Trilogy I had to do the swap trick twice and I hear that with Mortal Kombat Trilogy it's the same, so yeah, there are a few games that require that.

I would love to get the PC version, however, I have yet to find a copy I can download in less than 4 hours...(Beneath Canines is slow)

Yeah so I got it to work.

The swap is:

CDR
Real Disk - Wait for three blinks
CDR
Real Disk - Wait for three blinks
CDR

It's so weird that some disks need to do this to work.

It's because the producers were extra careful and decided to add two copy-protection rings instead of just one. They probably didn't think that if someone can bypass the first one, they'll definitely bypass the second...

Anyway, there's a torrent with the entire Discworld series for the PC over at UG in case you're interested. Don't know if you're registered there, I can hook you up with an invite if you need one.
