I'm playing the Genesis port of Raiden Trad right now, and it plays pretty damn great compared to my Jaguar port of the original Raiden...

Raiden Trad on the SNES sucks. Far too much slowdown.

I thought it sucked on the Genesis, too. The Jaguar port is far better - I'm not sure why you think otherwise, R_F. What do you mean?

I guess I'm taking into consideration too much the fact that it's a Genesis port of an arcade title.. The music, (as most arcade ports on the GEN,) sounds nice. Plus, in the small time that I actually devoted to the game, the control was pretty solid and I didn't notice any slowdown otherwise abnormal to sprite-intense games of the early 90's.. I'm no hard-core shoot'em up fan, but I don't yet see why all the disdain for the Trad games..

Played some Defender and Asteroids on the Atari 2600 last night. These count as shmups, right?

Defender maybe, in a somewhat loose definition.

On the subject of Raiden Trad.

I have not played the snes port, but I found the GEN port to be quite nice. I think the Jaguar port is nice in that it has 2p co-op (dont think gen does), but I prefer the gen port in other aspects.

I will say that the Raiden port in Raiden Project on the ps1 is superior, although its almost an unfair comparison seeing.as its an arcade-perfect port, and Trad was worked on to run properly on the genesis.

Still good fun though, as are a lot of shmups that people tend to talk shit about.

Muchi Muchi Pork and Pink Sweets are both amazing games. When you consider that its 2 cave games, both developed by Yagawa, I'd say its well worth the money.

Its odd, out of all the console shmups I've tracked down, the ones developed by Yagawa have cost me the most.

The piggie thing is a bit weird, but the gameplay in both games is so solid. I love that pork is more Cave style, and Pink Sweets is a throwback to Ibara (while being very similar to Recca)
