Unbricking a Wii

I don't know what happened after christmas....just a black screen. i can still get the HBC and priiloader... any ideas?

You should explain your problem in more detail. WHEN do you get just a black screen? When you turn on the console, after the warning screen?

i get a black screen when turning it on normally.

before yesterday it was a black screen or priiloader (holding reset) but i messed with it and made it worse. i installed a system menu wad with a wad manager thru the HBC.

now all i get is 4.3U in white letters when i activate SAVEMIIFRII (gc pad in player 4 with all d-pad directions held down.) when turning it on.

i need an auto-loading disc with a wad manager or any title deleter.

i tried to get my saves off but since wiimotes aren't working i can't do anything normally.

i do have a NAND/key/bootmii folder of my system right when i softmodded it.

So do you have boot me installed? Did you copy the NAND? That is what I use and if you made a NAND backup you could use that to re flash to before the problem occurred maybe.

I haven't bothered with the softmod stuff before, so I can't be much help. I did a lot of reading though, and I do remember seeing info on what to do with a partially bricked Wii. I believe the info was on this site some where (or one of the links from it):

Are you using any Custom IOS? Your wii is only softmodded right? cIOSs or hardmods could be the cause of your problems.

A NAND restore sounds like the simplest solution.

You can use savemiifrii to start disks still right? I assume your bootmii install is IOS only and no boot2. If it is IOS only, start brawl and use the stack smash hack to get programs loaded. Load this to get bootmii IOS started.

This is just me thinking out loud but...

If you don’t want to lose your saves you can backup your bricked NAND and then restore to the new one. Later extract the individual save out using Showmii WADS then install them back in using something like Savegame Manager.

At least in theory anyways, never had to do this myself. There's probably a simpler way to do it also.

To sum up, backup your brick NAND so you will have your saves backed up in some form. (Or does a NAND restore even effect save game data...ugh)

NAND restore will effect everything. Saves, system menu version, channels, everything stored on the wii.

Good idea, yes restoring your NAND give the saves you had at the time of making the back up.
