Sorry for the delay!

Okay, I've been playing Radiant Silvergun and I'm actually really enjoying it! I don't know why I didn't spend more time with it before..
Buuut, I still don't like Ikaruga. I've spent enough time playing it to know that it isn't for me. Ikaruga feels a lot like RS in that you need to learn the stages, enemy/bullet patterns... the "puzzle elements" as dunpeal called them.
Which that does describe most shooters but it feels like a lot more "intense" (I guess?) of an experience. It feels like navigating a maze; which I like but Ikaruga feels more like a puzzle game rather than a shooter.
Anyone else get that feeling?
(Did I ramble too much? It felt like I did...kinda.)

Yeah I see where you're coming from. Ikaruga is a different kind of shooter for sure, not everyone will like it. I like it myself, but like others have said, it's not really a "throw it in and have fun" game, like most shmups.
Glad you were able to enjoy Radiant Silvergun though. I can see how people might be a little let-down at first just because of the enormous hype surrounding the game, but I believe it's truly a special game and Treasure's best.

Re: Radiant Silvergun and the like...
I've yet to find a shmup I enjoy more than Galactic Attack
. Maybe because it's the first shmup I got in to idk.
I played a bit of RS in an emulator and thought it was fun, but, not worth the asking price.
I didn't really find Ikaruga fun at all when I had my Gamecube. I should maybe revisit it now that I've found more interest in the genre.

Saying this on this site my get me killed but i think shmups are one genre getting better every generation, the xbox 360 shmups are incredible

Has anyone here tried a Psyvariar game? It really reminds me of Ikaruga except instead of "eating" bullets you bounce off of them. I have to say this gameplay mechanic is rather interesting.

It could be argued that pretty much every genre has improved with time...ninjainspandex wrote:Saying this on this site my get me killed but i think shmups are one genre getting better every generation, the xbox 360 shmups are incredible
Re: Radiant Silvergun and the like...
Argued being the key word... I think most genres in general (as far as current gen releases go) have declined in quality overall due to the whole requiring a massive budget thing. FPSes and RPGs especially. Platformers have all but died off. There are some games that are a cut above the rest this gen, in fact a few games I would consider in my top 20 games of all time were produced this gen, but to me it seems the ratio of great:average:shit has unfortunately gone south when you compare to previous gens.dsheinem wrote:It could be argued that pretty much every genre has improved with time...
As far as shmups go, I think that's a poor example. I'm sure the Cave 360 shmups are great (have only played one), but Cave is pretty much the only developer out there still putting out major releases. Treasure did that new S&P game awhile ago but aside from that every new release shmup I've played has been of very low quality.

I thought the grazing was interesting too. Shikigami games do this too. Psyvariar was too much bullet hell for me to enjoy though. I have 2 of them for sale in my sale thread.Opa Opa wrote:Has anyone here tried a Psyvariar game? It really reminds me of Ikaruga except instead of "eating" bullets you bounce off of them. There are also two versions of the "Complete Edition" which has the games and some bonus items.
