The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

My girlfriend's roommate recently failed out of college, but didn't tell my girlfriend. Instead she just mentions that she's going home for the summer, so we don't think much of it. Then my girlfriend returns home late one Friday afternoon to discover almost all the furniture is gone, the door to her room is locked, and the utilities are all cut off. So we try to get in touch with the girl. In fact, we'd been trying to reach her for a few days, wondering what all was going on. Finally on Saturday we get a phone call from her sister, who bitches out Alice(my girlfriend) about owing them 40 bucks and how Alice deserved having all the utilities cut off on a Friday, being forced to pay to have them all turned back on, and the roommate is not turning over her key so Alice can get a new roommate legally.
Funny thing is, Alice doesn't owe them 40 bucks. If anything, they owe her 35 bucks. When Alice first moved in, she was sub-leasing for another girl who apparently just decided one day to leave. This other girl and Alice's roommate apparently hadn't bothered to pay bills on time, and in her infinite wisdom the roommate decides not to sign the power over, so the power is still in this third girl's name. So the power company slaps them with a $150 fine for spotty payments from previous months during the first month of Alice living there. Laura, Alice's roommate, asks about it and Alice explains why it isn't hers to pay. Laura seems cool with this. Apparently her family isn't. Alice starts getting harassing phone calls from Laura's sister about this money, and they refuse to listen any time Alice explains things to them. They also refuse to let Alice speak to Laura's father so she can explain everything. Alice figures she'll try to be a good roommate, so she gives Laura a little extra money for bills so this situation doesn't happen again. Instead, the family takes it and explains that it's from this half that Alice still doesn't owe them.
So finally it results in this. So Alice is trying to clean things up, and Laura's friends start coming by asking for left over stuff. Then Laura starts randomly showing up and taking stuff when Alice isn't there(the neighbor's on Alice's side and lets us know when she's been sneaking in). Alice has explained everything to the realty company, and while they won't pay for new locks, they'll look the other way if we get the locks changed and don't happen to tell Laura. Alice has been trying to get a new roommate as well, so hopefully that'll happen soon and we can put all this behind us. Alice is still getting harassing messages over Facebook that prove these people are idiots, but hopefully the worst of this stuff is past. If it isn't, then we might have to find a legal way to handle this.
All in all, this girl comes from an apparently rich family that doesn't really need the money. I think they're upset that their daughter has failed out of school, is addicted to WoW, does too many drugs, and is on a lot of meds. Apparently the older sister is in the middle of a nasty divorce too, so I think this is them trying to cope by being assholes to an undeserving third party. Also, their daughter needs some serious psych help, judging from how she's been twisting arguments to suit her.
Frankly, I think they fail at life. Here's hoping we never have to deal with people like this again.

I wouldn't even stay there anymore. That kinda of stuff could end up in horrible headaches down the line again... it sucks more being harassed by an ex-roommate then a roommate in general.
Whenever I've had roommates I've always been in the situation where it was my home and I don't rent from other people (save for the leasing company). This way if any headaches come up it comes down too a house meeting and if we all agree, that person is booted (I've always lived with 4+ people... come from a big family, I like it that way). I've certainly had to kick people out on SEVERAL occasions for bullshit, and sometimes for extreme reasons.
Guy 1)
Was selling drugs out of the sliding glass door to his room (hence my previous comment). He didn't even try to be inconspicuous. I mean come on, a guy with a bandana sitting on a pale in the doorway to his room for every passer by to see is OBVIOUS! He also fell back on rent (never get high on your own supply kids)... so boot to the fucking street.
Guy 2)
This guy moved in and took a room in my 3 bedroom townhouse. A month later my brother who had recently got out of jail was booted from his girlfriend/ex-girlfriends apartment (that house was a nightmare... if you want bad roommate stories go there, downside... all from that house, save Dex, have passed away... including another brother of mine).
Anyways, so I let my brother move in. He doesn't have a lot of cash so I set him up with a bed in the living room. He also gets a new girlfriend (whom he is now engaged to) so she is over all the time. My house now contains on a daily basis about 7 people. Luckily it was big. The guy who rented out one of the rooms I spoke of before though started having issues. He was a week or two late on rent habitually, never cleaned up after himself, and started sleeping on my couch all the time. This was not sitting well with me, especially because he worked construction and stained my white couch this disgusting brown. His room was covered in dirty dishes and old food. This one actually came down to a fist fight before we got him out.
What drove me most crazy about this, was that after telling him not to sleep on my couch a hundred times. I finally said, fine, let Dex sleep in your room and you take the couch. This way he and his girlfriend can have some privacy... nope that wouldn't fly. k...
Guy3)
Another brother of mine (I said, big fucking family!) lived with me for 10 months. In the entire 10 months he didn't once pay me a thing, except for one check which bounced and caused a waterfall of bounced checks on my account. And on one occasion he smashed a telephone over my head (one of those big old school ones... you know, with the red blinky light and made of metal). On top of owing me several thousand dollars he also screwed several others out of 10's of thousands of dollars.
Those were probably my worst room mates. The rest of them were Ok. I wouldn't call them dream roommates. But hey, whatever. Stupid shit with them, don't eat my food, pick up your towels, stop being late on rent, can you turn out the lights when you leave. That kind of stuff... In all respect, I'm probably not the dream room mate either. So I don't really complain about that crap.

My biggest and most simple problem with roommates has been dirty dishes. I absolutely HATE doing dishes so I am the type who immediately cleans their dish after using it. If I don't I will NEVER clean it and I understand this.
An ex-roomate could not understand this concept. His technique was fine for him, let them pile up in the sink until he was ready to do them all.
The trouble? Taking turns doing "the" dishes. He could not understand the idea that when the sink filled up with dishes none of them were mine. No way in hell was I washing his dishes half the time. To resolve the problem I simply bought my own complete set of dishes and told him not to use them and I would not clean anything I did not own. Insane but it worked.
